Washington state. 49M, 47F. SAHM for 17 years with zero income (and over spending), kids 15,17. Everyone is intelligent, highly educated, healthy. No abuse, no affairs. Married almost 20 years, not in Seattle/King County area. Retirement goalposts already shifted years due to household spending by her.
We are working for 6+ months now to somehow establish connection with each other. Unfortunately, literally no progress yet.
My understanding is alimony will be 1 year for about every 3 years married, and could be ordered to be lifetime at 25 years. Of course, I’m gonna lose at least half in a divorce and end up paying more taxes, etc, etc in case of divorce.
I can’t help but think that the lifetime alimony potential is affecting our work at trying to reconnect.
Can a post up prevent lifetime alimony?
