Just curious.. if I work some contract work this year.. where it adds say 50K to my gross.. and she maintains her pay.. the difference between us extends. However.. this is like a side gig I picked up.. it's not a perm job and it certainly wont likely be my gross next year, etc. I am going to assume it DOES affect how much alimony I would pay should I get divorced. Then.. I will also assume the following year I would be able to adjust it due to lower gross. The down side is.. I would have to pay a full year at the higher alimony rate until taxes came out? Or as soon as I am no longer bringing in that money (contract is over) and my monthly drops a few K.. can I get it adjusted then?

I want the extra money.. because right now it can help us pay some shit off.. whether we split it later in divorce.. or pay it off now.. it has to get paid off. I am not totally worried about the whole "wait for divorce so she has to take half of the debt".. I am also trying to fix my credit which is shit, and paying some things off lowering debt to income ratio now will help me be able to buy a house for myself once we get divorced.. e.g. help raise my credit rating AND remove debt now.. which for me seems more important right now since it takes time to raise credit rating. Even if I were to wait for divorce.. and then pay my half off.. it would still take many months for that to raise my credit rating.

But my concern is the alimony pay. Right now I am told based on our difference, I would pay about 1K a month. But if I make an additional 4K or so a month or more.. I suspect I will end up having to pay 3K or more a month.. which seems ludicrous for a non-perm contract gig.. thus.. trying to understand if adjustments can be made month to month if need be.. or they take full 1 year tax gross info?
