Well, as your title says, emergency ex parte are for emergencies when there isnt time or it could put someones life in danger if the court doesn't intervene somehow. Contempt motions are more of your typical court cases where someone has to go through due process, much slower paced, and eventually leads to the kangaroo court we're all familiar with

A contempt motion is a motion filed by one side to show the court the other side isn't adhering to a court order that was handed down by the court or agreed on by both parties. Imagine your annoying brother tattling on you for playing with your toys when Mom told you not to.

An emergency ex-parte motion is a motion that is filled in one parties behalf that does not require the participation of the other party. Think of a temporary restraining order. It's only put in place to protect one party in an extreme case, and must be heard by both parties at a later date.
