My wife and me had scheduled a weekend getaway a while ago as a second chance opportunity this weekend. We never made it to this weekend, wife initiated the divorce. One of my sons has been taking it really hard and needed some time away. My wife couldn’t do it so I took him on our weekend getaway to hocking hills. We had a lot of fun just me and him, spent a lot of time talking about everything. Hiked 20 miles in total. We took the long hikes around so we had more time as just the two of us and we could talk in privacy. It was hard but I absolutely loved the time with my son. We experienced a first, saw a barn owl swoop down in front of us, kill its target, and eat it in the trail. We just stood and watched. But I couldn’t help to look around and know my wife would have loved it there just like we did. I got this image in my head of my wife and me standing there a year from now holding hands. It gave me false hope. When I got home I packed my bags for the week and hugged my kids goodbye.
