I've (M47) been semi-separated from my wife (F45) of almost 21 years for a year now. We still live in the same house, she's been staying in the spare bedroom by her choice, I offered her to keep the master bedroom since I travel for work and am only home a could weekends a month. She said it was too much mentally to deal with. Our youngest (F20) still lives at home with us, the rest of our kids and grandson live 700 miles north where we moved from 3 years ago. We still get along but basically have just fallen out of love with each other and decided it's not fair to ourselves. Other than some emotional scars from the past we have no ill feelings towards each other. Last weekend we decided to officially call it quits and she caught me off gaurd in her own preparation for it. She is moving back up north next week with my daughter and my dog, which I'm not home enough to take care of.

Every time I think about what it's going to be after they leave, it's agony. I think if they left and stayed local, or even if my daughter stayed it would be much easier to deal with, but to have no one at all around when that's all I've known for 21 years, I'm at a complete loss. I love her and always will, I'm just not in love with her any more. As much as I've thought this through leading up to it and thought I was prepared, I was grossly mistaken.

Does anyone have any tips, suggestions or anything they have found that helps to not think about it or to help get through it and get over it any quicker?
