So my ex left me in 2024. By 2025 I was paying her $1000 a month in child support and paying for my car which she exclusively drives. When my kid started kindergarten I was given 100% of to and from school transportation responsibility. This all is court ordered, my ex refuses to communicate except through court ordered apps and won't discuss terms of divorce except in a court room.

Guardian Ad Litem (Court ordered child lawyer) concluded that my school system was best for kid. We have 50/50 custody. My ex lives 30 minutes away, and I have to drive my kid to her after she gets out of work on her custody days, and then I have to go pick up my kid the next morning and get her to school. This means that on my ex's custody days I have to do 2 hours of driving during rush hours. She says she cannot drive, because her work starts at 8:30am and school starts at 8am. I only work part time, because my job is flexible and I have disability income so that's why the judge decided I should do 100% of the kids transportation.

Driving for an hour at 7am for the convenience of my ex's work schedule is seriously crushing my soul. I am enraged while I drive, and I live my life in a state of rage. I feel like I am enslaved to my ex. She gets a 3rd of my income (We both make the same amount of money before child support, I make 30k and she makes 50k after child support) AND I have to do ALL of the driving for my kid.

These court orders are temporary. Last year the judge said they would finish our case some time this year. I HAVE BEEN LIVING LIKE THIS FOR A YEAR!!! It's the 120th day of school and my ex has dropped off the kid at school 3 times all year because I was sick or the car was broken. The gas and wear and tear on my vehicles is a lot.

I also have the kid at my home any time the school is closed, which is many times per month, and I do all the school pickup and keep kid at my home until my ex gets out of work, and then I drive my kid to her moms house... and then I get up and do it again to get my kid to school the next day.

So in a 14 day period this schedule means I have the kid 199 hours out of 336 hours. Or 60% of the time.

These court orders have been TEMPORARY for a year!!! My lawyer told me there is nothing to do but wait. Meanwhile, I am driving myself insane with rage as every morning I must cater to my ex's convenience is a freshly opened wound. Every Monday when she gets my child support my wound is freshly opened. I am so mad, and I must continue waiting.

I'm so grateful that I can get by working very little, and that I have my kiddo 60% of the time. I feel I am overall winning this war, but I am having a very hard time accepting that I do more parenting AND pay her child support, and waiting for a court ruling for months is driving me crazy. What would you do if you were me?
