Allow yourself time to grieve. Losing your family is a very traumatic experience and shouldn’t be swept under the rug.

I took about six months where I hibernated. I had very little contact with the outside world beyond work and my kids. People tried to make me feel guilty about it, but fuck em.

What I found at the end of that process was the most beautiful freedom. I was free to focus on myself. To do whatever I wanted with my life. I was a man with absolutely nothing else to lose and everything to gain. I felt like a superhero. Shit was exciting.

Fast forward to the present and all of the cliches you read in this forum came true for me as well (more money, more women, happiness, etc., etc.). But it takes time.

I think I spent the first year in shock, but I had a child I loved and needed to help raise, and I had a job I didn’t want to lose, and so I just spent every day doing what I had to. Finding and furnishing a new place was a big deal to me. Because I have my son a lot, I spend a lot of time working, cooking, washing dishes, cleaning, and doing laundry. When I have time to myself, I like to hang out with friends or do one of my hobbies. Honestly, four years after the separation, I’m in kind of a holding pattern. My son gets out of high school in a few years, and I don’t expect much to change until that happens. After that, I have no idea. Best to you, and I hope your life post-divorce is a good one.

For the immediate focus on your responsibilities, your kid, your job etc. be a machine. Do some yoga, meditation (I can send you some videos), stretching .. I am not saying ‘workout’. These activities only take 15 mins and give you an immense benefit emotionally. Slowly you start thinking about what next.. and so on. Hope you have a support system to share
