I know I have seen others do this, for those of you who have "separated" and stayed in the same house, how did it work, did you set some ground rules, what about holidays etc.

I am in a 20 year marriage, and I think it is time to admit that the things we have both been complaining about for 20 years will not change in the next 20 years. Neither of us have the funds to go get an apartment, I could move in with my 88 year old mother, but I really do not want to do that as the house was mine before we were married. I do have a travel trailer, my thought is that if I sleep in the travel trailer so that we are "separate" but I am still there for the kids, and paying for the household etc. I have some large debts that will be paid off in 18 months, at that time I could easily pay her $2k or so a month. I just feel like it adds a level of planning for what is coming vs hitting her with a divorce notice and asking her to move out when she has no money no place to go. The kids are 2 18 year olds, going to college, this way they still have us there for help, transportation etc, until we can make a reasonable break, and nothing is really a surprise to anyone when the time comes. We do not really argue or fight, basically get along. But there are enough issues that neither of us are happy.
