I, 22 M, am currently going through a divorce. There is one child involved, and we are trying to avoid bringing it to court. We both currently live in New Mexico, but I plan to move to Connecticut within 1.5 years. We had a family at church we were both really close to, and I considered the kids of the family as my own siblings. As such, we did things such as snuggle during movies and scratch each other's backs on occasion. After separation, the parents and my soon-to-be ex-wife got together and decided that I was not part of the family, and what I had done with the kids was grooming, even though every one of the kids and I considered each other family. My soon-to-be ex-wife, let's call her Sue, has told me that because of this, they're trying to take away my claim for partial custody on weekends, and that if I take this to court they will also sue me for sexual harassment of minors. The only people who ever interacted with me and the kids together are people who saw us at church and the parents, and Sue, all of whom are mad at me and would speak against me in court. I was already planning on moving away and focusing on my career and future relationships and family. Is it worth bringing this to court? I asked a lawyer and they said that I will likely lose both cases, but I want to be close to my daughter, who is only 8 months old, until I move away in a year or so.

Sue is fine with me having weekend visitation, but not being alone with my daughter or having her overnight. I was pushing for weekends before, but I'm not sure if it's worth the fight. What do you think?
