I've been a long-time lurker on this sub and have gained a lot of valuable insights on divorce, child custody, property division, and spousal support. Now, I'd like to seek some specific feedback from the community on my own situation.

Background: I live in Texas and have been married for over 15 years. We have two kids, aged 13 and 11. I have a stable, well-paying job and am the sole breadwinner in the family. My spouse and I have slept in separate rooms for the past five years, and she has made unfounded claims of abuse against me. I retained legal counsel last week and have filed for divorce. Tomorrow, I'll present her with a waiver of service, which she needs to notarize and return. I should add, she has had intermittent employment, while I've been working full-time.

From what I've gathered both from this sub and my lawyer, the best I can expect is a standard possession order that allows for approximately 60/40 custody of the kids based on a pre-defined calendar, along with a nearly 50/50 split of our assets. I'm also expected to provide about $2,300 per month in child support. This is something I can manage. However, I am firmly against paying spousal support. From my understanding of Texas law, certain conditions have to be met for spousal support to be granted, and our situation doesn't meet those criteria.

Here's my plan, and I'd appreciate your feedback:

* I'm planning to wait about a week to let emotions settle before telling the children about the divorce. Any longer and there's a risk they might hear it from cousins, friends, etc.

* For now, I intend to remain living in the family home until all legal matters are finalized, with the aim of keeping interactions civil. We have a few rental properties, one of them in a month to month and is very close by to our current home.

* In case things turn hostile, I have a "go-bag" prepared in my car, so I can leave at a moment's notice. I'll also need to grab my laptop for work purposes. Check into an extended stay or airbnb, tell the month to month tenant to move, and then make the best of the situation. This is only if I get forced to move i.e. police or court order.

Of course, all these plans hinge on her reaction when she receives the divorce papers, but I believe it's best to plan for the worst while hoping for the best.
