Read a lot of posts with men struggling to move forward after divorce. It’s tough. Suggesting what helped me and what may help others in their journey.

Realize that we all have had a vision. Some for many, many years. We envisioned how our family would look, holidays, careers, homes, wealth. We sacrifice and work to achieve this vision. We all have.

All the sudden the vision is not attainable. It’s gone. We are lost.

Let’s think about seeing. You can’t turn your eyes “off”. You can cover them. You can move them and choose what you look at. You can choose to continually look back at your life. It’s incredibly hard to move forward looking back. You can cover them. Very hard to move in any direction with them covered. You also choose to look forward. That’s how we move forward. Question is, towards what?

Now combine the two. Seeing a future vision allows us to move forward. What helped me was painting a picture of what my life would look like 2, 5, 10, 20 years from now. Yea, the holidays sucked, but what got me through them was what I wanted them to look like in the future. Same with finances, career, kids, etc.

This was not easy. It took everyday reflecting. It took asking myself if I made a tiny step towards realizing my vision. It took discipline in choosing not to look back.
