Things haven't been great. I know. But last week. Two days before I was due for surgery she says she is leaving me. Not a question. Just a statement of fact. Not willing to discuss counseling or anything. She just announced it's done. Said she wasn't going to tell me until after I recovered. I told her I wasn't dumb and noticed changes in her behavior. She didn't deny them. Said she didn't have a plan in place. But she is leaving. It was supposed to be 15 years this year. Everyone tells me to be thankful we don't have kids. I am. But I don't feel grateful.

Physically, I am handling the surgery recovery fine? Emotionally? I'm a mess. She is gone as much as she can be. She barely wants to discuss the upcoming divorce, but when she does it's just about money. Told me she doesn't want alimony or my retirement and I'm relieved. I told her that she earns more than me and that I don't want money from her. Then she tells me I have to buy her out of her share of the house that we bought back in 2020. She's entitled to half. I grimace. I borrowed against my retirement for the downpayment. Asked for money from my folks. Made every mortgage payment. Paid for every home repair. Yet she has someone telling her that she is entitled to half. I can't afford to buy her out. Neither of us can afford lawyers or to make this go to litigation. I can afford the mortgage on my own. It's actually cheaper than 1BR apartments where I live.

But I have to give up the house because she doesn't want to be with me? Make it make sense.
