There does seem to be a double standard and an empathy gap about stuff like that, i.e. harm/abuse and the existence or appropriateness of comments about body parts.

It's not that men don't comment, it's that men generally don't deny that they or other men make such comments, and it's also regarded as crass when a man makes such a comment. The womanosphere, on the other hand, would have you believe that coming from women it's somehow a different thing, it's somehow not a problem or even positively cute, or that it doesn't exist, and if you claim it exists, you're a misogynist. Have you noticed how so many accusations of misogyny these days are essentially responses to people asking for equal treatment?

Another thing that comes to my mind is how certain misandrists/feminists appear to genuinely think they're coming from egalitarian positions while espousing outlandish ideas like men are allowed to go shirtless in public (main square, not beach), belch or fart a the table, etc. Some people clearly have lost the scale and sense of proportion. Then they execute the W2M inverse of the M2W behaviours they claim to exist and be acceptable, which we could summarize as 'amplify and reverse', and they demand that society acknowledge that sort of thing as levelling the field. And society is too politically correct to tell them they're exaggerating. I wonder if the in-your-face gross/crass comments comments coming from female users of the Internet aren't part of the same phaenomenon — in other words, if the caricaturally exaggerated crassness isn't something they feel obliged to do in order to assert their equality of rights with men, as they see it (because of some sort of cognitive issues). But this isn't really a serious hypothesis, just me thinking aloud.

I don't watch Grey's Anatomy but I am aware of that episode. It's insanely fucked up how mgm is treated like it's a "normal" thing, especially in media. I can list a bunch of movies where mgm is seen as the "punchline" of those movies. I'm extremely sensitive about this (because I was exposed to it as a child), and scenes like this gives me ptsd.

I don't often agree with people's takes on media being either misogynistic OR misandrist. I think people let their ideological hang-ups block them from holistic analysis.

So in that sense, as someone who cares about society coming to understand that we have a misandry problem, I often find myself in opposition the "media hates men!" narrative some spout. I just don't view art that way.

But that's not to say that there aren't genuine cases of it. And this is one of them. The overall prevalence of humor based around the damage to male genitals or mocking male genitals is incredible to behold once you start to pay attention. I'm not talking about a basic nut shot gag or something, but stuff like the subject of this thread.

Male sexual assault and male genital mutilation is almost always played for laughs. Even when some shows or films TRY and explore the idea of men being sexually assaulted in a more nuanced light, they often backpedal or brush it off.

The show Shameless comes to mind. Multiple female characters commit unambiguous rape against male characters and it's always brushed aside. It will tacitly acknowledge it was rape but just...not care?

The main male character, Frank, is a piece of shit degenerate loser of the highest order. Every disgusting, manipulative, petty thing he can do, he does. But he's not a rapist. But he IS raped. By a woman. He's bombed off his ass while it happens and the show goes out of its way to show he's STILL cognizant enough to protest. It is ignored and she still rapes him. Nothing comes of it.

Early in the show a handful of the male characters learn a pedo has moved into the neighborhood and they gang up to go and beat the shit of out them. UNTIL they find out she's a woman. A young, attractive woman who slept with her underaged student. Then suddenly everyone is bamboozled and moves on. And to make it worse, one of our main male protagonists SLEEPS with her. Because she's just sooo hot, y'know? And the kicker? He's still in high school himself. So she re-offends.

One of the main female protagonists rapes her boyfriend. She even admits it to herself and her brother. He (who is also the one who had sex with the pedo) says something to the effect of "you can rape a guy?"

The only instance of male rape (by a woman) that I recall is painted as unambiguously bad is when an abusive monstrous father forces his gay son to have sex with a female prostitute in front his boyfriend.

The show is black comedy. And its meant to display the worst of human behavior in a very dark, yet comedic light. But the way the show goes about this is unbalanced. Horrible things that happen to the female characters is given more room to be dramatic, to be taken seriously without the edge of dark humor. But with the male characters, this is not the case.

The male characters often don't get the narrative respect the women do.

It simply does not portray abhorrent female behavior with the same severity is portrays abhorrent male behavior.

With that said, I want to be charitable. The show isn't saying "men can't be raped." In fact I think the show is genuine in trying to show us that they can. It just didn't have the clarity of mind to tonally and narratively let us come out own conclusions about it like all of the other terrible things the characters do.

I think the show is earnest in its attempt to say "See, this can happen to!" But it just didn't get the execution right because they couldn't help backpedaling.
