You'll tell me I'm a masochist but I regularly read the women's subs on reddit (twox, etc.). At first I was puzzled by the stories of some guy getting angry and being an asshole for no reason whatsoever, according to her telling of the story. After a while I realized that they have some magical memory that forgets critical parts of the story; I honestly believe that they don't remember those bits. Then I started reading the WomenInTech sub where a similar thing happens there, some guy gets an advancement, a raise, etc. and she describes herself in these amazing glowing terms and thinks she should have gotten it. Again, I realized that they simply don't see how the guy is a more productive, proactive, imaginative employee and is easier to work with. They really do believe that their boss is helping some dud guy simply because of, you know, the patriarchy and misogyny. (Working with women in tech was a real eye opener for me; prior to that I supported feminists.)

If she actually knew what it was like to be raped, she'd know that (a) if the topic comes up it would be impossible not to think about your own experience, making sharing the fact it happened in the right conversation pretty likely, but also (b) you learn pretty quickly to just deescalate and avoid when someone starts asking questions you have no interest in answering. Who the fuck enjoys being cross examined on the details of their own sexual assault?
