Question about our partner selection?

Depends what they're seeking a partner for I imagine. I disagree with rating attractiveness on a number scale, but even if I accept that - there's more to a person than their (almost arbitrarily) assigned hotness number.

So between a '6' and a '10'... Who knows. Maybe the 10 is friendly but has different political views which make them incompatible. Maybe the 6 makes her laugh and listens to her problems. Maybe the 10 is actually an amazing guy and super into her and they agree on all life's big questions. Maybe the 6 is an asshole who takes rejection badly. And so on and so forth.

Attractiveness is also not really the thing that demonstrates genetic compatibility. 'Better' genes don't really exist in the sense that there are some that are just objectively better or worse - this idea is false. So, on a very subconscious level - such that it's probably not worth considering, but it's relevant here - people can choose partners who give off tiny signals that they will produce genetically healthy babies. This has nothing to do with attractiveness - someone who is a '10' is still not going be genetically compatible with plenty of people. I have no idea how pseudo-sciencey it is, so approach with caution, but have maybe a quick Google of the histo-compatibility complex. (Essentially, being attracted to someone's pheromones - a specific combination that indicates they're a good genetic match, it's not just testosterone/estrogen. It's suggested as a possible reason why couples often find the smell of each other's sweat at the very least not un-appealing).

IMO, don't worry about "genes" when it comes to attractiveness. Whatever evolutionary benefit there was for humans to seek out partners that were "genetically superior" thousands of years ago has long been irrelevant for a long time thanks to the creation of civilizations and technology. Apart from looking out for conditions and illnesses that can be passed down from parent to child, I think worrying about the genetics of a partner is an antiquated and silly prospect.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Someone who is a 10 in my eyes could be a 4 in another woman's. There are no hard and fast rules about attractiveness. I think, for a healthy relationship, of course partners should find each other physically attractive. But I think that being attracted to each other is kinda the bare minimum of a relationship.

I would rather be with a 7 who treats me well and I enjoy spending my time with than a 10 who's a dickhead, aaaany day of the week. Attractiveness isn't what makes a relationship last happily for decades, compatibility, teamwork, and emotional intelligence is.

The problem is, peoples taste changes from person to person. I personally find angelina jolie not pretty. A lot of people dont agree with me. I think margot robbie is the hotest woman ever... a lot of people dont agree with me. On the other hand, the problem with chosing based on physical apparience is that beauty fades (in both men and women) and i personally dont go for the hotest (physically) person available to me, bc my rule of thumb is that they tend to be douchy assholes. And that kindoglf behavior is HUGE turn off. They mught not be the asshole with me, but they tend to treat others bad bc they think that their apparience makes it ok. Not everyone is like this, obvs.... but several hot people i have met are. And lastly, personality and smarts make someone very hot too. So i would probably have to take into account if our personalities, points of view and just values in general align before ever deciding the whole picture of "are they hot"? So i dont see why i would spend all my time and energy with a "10/10" pretty looking person if their personality makes their company a pain in he ass. And even worse, have kids with them only so my kids end up with those annoying traits

The science of attraction is a real thing. Women wear blush/rouge to have red cheeks, they wear extensions or volumizing spray to have full, thick hair, and things like large pupils and white teeth are all indicative of good health in a woman. As a generalization, good health = fertility. We can all find different things attractive, particularly things that sparked our minds in our formative years. But wide hips, curves = healthy womb size; large shoulders in men, muscles = protection. For someone to say there’s not a general science to what humans find attractive based on fertility is just not true. Anyone can find anything attractive, but looking from genetics to a person’s health is a big part of their fertility. We are animals, and we need physical clues to find another human to procreate with. Our goal is just like any other animal - to forward our species. We can only do that if we build on top of successful traits and leave bad ones behind.
