Status always gets brought up but I think it's pretty well misunderstood. Everyone looks at it as being super famous or super rich, which I'm sure counts when you're a celebrity or a pro athlete. But for anyone who isn't an extreme outlier in society, status is different altogether.

I think it's about how popular and well liked someone is. Similar to being a teenager where it was the popular attractive guy who girls had a crush on, it's the same later on. Being popular means you're well liked and that elevates your social status among your peers. That generally makes you appealing for obvious reasons.

I think this is a more practical and realistic definition of status rather than using celebrities as examples. It also explains why some guys who are maybe just somewhat attractive date girls who are a little bit more attractive. Being naturally likeable and wanted by peers is a big plus.
