Discussion: Green flags for making presents

The whole point of gifts is to show someone that we care. That their presence in our lives is valued and appreciated. Monetary value is secondary to effort.

My green flags for a gift include obvious knowledge of my likes and dislikes, an understanding of what's important to me, and effort.

Thank you for posting. My man was showing green flags, but boom - and no Christmas gift. He also went on a rant about how he doesn’t care about Christmas and that it’s “nOt a BiG dEaL”, and how he doesn’t get gifts so he doesn’t give. Little did he know I was planning on giving him something special, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy my vintage flannel myself. Anyway, I canceled plans with him to spend quality time with myself, and maybe I’ll be canceling this relationship if he doesn’t correct asap. happy holidays to you :)

I had mentioned once that my absolute favorite dessert ever is cream horns. They are lovely, flaky, puff pastry cornettes filled with a kind of fluffy marshmallow creamy goodness and there's only one place here in Cincinnati that still makes them so they're not easy to get. He brought me a beautifully boxed package of four. It was just so darned thoughtful.

Totally agree. This was my first christmas with my bf (we live in Sweden and celebrate on the 24th) and I was a little tense to see what he came up with. We're both students and his economy is significantly worse than mine. Also, he's been talking about for weeks how he's bad at giving gifts, how he doesn't usually buy presents for his family "unless he's come up w something perfect" etc.

I am well aware these could all be considered red flags, but I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. B-days and X-mas are important to me and he knows it. I don't really care what I get, how expensive it is, so long as it has a lot of thought behind it.

Thankfullly, he came through in the end. He got me two gifts; first a Djungelskog (kind of a "gag-gift" that made me laugh until my stomach hurt) and then a beautiful note book with a matchning set of quill and ink. All if which I adore, but would never have thought to wish for.

Never, EVER settle, ladies.

Green flag gifts also come from his family. Are they accepting of you for who you are? Or is every gift a reminder that you need to conform? That shit becomes so draining over time. It makes you start despising Xmas and holidays.

One green flag is giving you what you asked for. It's literally the least he can do.
