Honey! Get out of there! You’re allowed to care about people, but nothing says you need to put up with emotional abuse. Extract yourself from this situation and heal your head and your heart. PTSD is an explanation for the abuse, but it sure as hell isn’t an excuse for you to have to endure it.

Edit: it isn’t your job to fix him. It isn’t your responsibility to carry his burden. And it isn’t fair, right, or ok for him to take any of it out on you. That man needs therapy. And hun, after the abuse he’s been putting you through, you might want to touch base with a councillor too, just to get yourself back in a healthier headspace.

Edit #2: I’m speaking from experience. I thought I could “be there” for my man and that if I could be his rock it’d help him. He just pulled me under with him until we were both drowning. Counselling and self-compassion homework, time and distance have helped heal me. I believe in you too.

When I pulled the plug and left my last LTR, I called my mom and she loaned me 6 grand to pay off my portion of the rent entirely. I paid her back, and it was the best gift she ever gave me.

You can’t get what you want if you’re wasting your time with a man who treats you like shit. Get help and get out.

Speaking from experience - the onslaught of pointless dramatic bullshit you’ll endure by being with a brain-damaged, PTSD-suffering war vet is so not worth it. Dump his ass yesterday, and go find a normal guy. There’s plenty of them out there who will treat you much better.
