A month ago, I moved to a “new” city (I had lived here for six months before) for a job. My 2021 resolution essentially boils down to “no dick.” But! I downloaded OKCupid to practice FDS values for when it is actually time to start looking. Especially because dating is supposed to be fun!

I got the app four weeks ago. I’ve matched with five men. I only spend about half an hour a week swiping—it’s barely on my mind. Tonight I had a first date! I’m honestly not all that attracted to him, but he was a good conversationalist, and ultimately I’m an extrovert, so I decided to go ahead and meet up.

I made a backup plan. If he didn’t show, I would have a pleasant night at a restaurant with my own company and then hit the store nextdoor to look for decor. If he did show but sucked, same deal, I’d go nextdoor. I only ordered what I was comfortable paying for myself, but he did pick up the whole tab. I had a nice night for an hour and twenty. He’s also only in town for a week each month for business. I’m happy with that!

The second guy I’m talking to is a loong paragraph texter. Great conversation, not pushy at all, and I can take my time responding without it being a burden. We’ll have to figure out a date soon though, otherwise I’ll be cutting it off.

The other three guys haven’t messaged. I messaged one guy first in a moment of weakness because he’s really attractive, but he didn’t even respond. I should probably unmatch with them all.

Ultimately, I don’t think I’m going to find much, but I’m also not really to seriously date until I’m settled into my new life here. But I think this was a good experience to try out having a rotation because it’s something I’ve never done.
