Just thought this was a great article to share. It's really funny. It touches on how the follow through is extremely important when boundary setting and how CoMmUnIcAtInG repeatedly is detrimental.

Saw this on instagram. This notion seems to be everywhere, even if the people don't blantantly say it. What a time to be alive. 🙃

This is why we don't marry men that don't respect and value us. Men should add to our lives. He knows what he's doing. She needs to leave.

Love this. Discrepancies between actions and words will tell you if someone is genuine or not.

I read something recently on how a woman had to communicate with either a long time husband or bf who kept doing jack for her birthday/ holidays that she was clearly into, and she cOmMuNiCaTeD hEr lOvE LaNgUaGe to him and once again, her birthday went unnoticed. He then threw a fit when she took their child with her to the store to get some little decos to hang for her birthday, and she and her kid had fun hanging them and bonding. Why was he angry? Because he felt like she did it on purpose so that their kid would upstage him.

First of all, why should she give two flying fucks about HIS feelings when he doesn't care about hers? And let's be honest, everyone wants their birthday/ holidays celebrated unless they expressly bring up that they don't.

Second, that kid totally did show him up, and by doing very very little, which is sad.

I think this article and that post really go hand in hand to show that you can beat that horse to death but it won't change a thing, and that at some point you're just playing yourself in terms of expectations when you should be looking at the situation frankly, as it is, and making choices based upon reality and not an idyllic imagined potential future if a partner "could only just change." If they want to change they will.

Yes, you can't make anyone listen or change. You can only control yourself. The communicate trap is so harmful to your self esteem. That must be so heartbreaking to even have to ask in the first place. Then after asking receive nothing. Thanks for sharing this! I'm going to screenshot this for later when I get called heartless for having boundaries LOL. This is the future without boundaries, you end up with men that were not vetted properly.

And you know homegirl pulls out the stops for his birthday: some thoughtful and good quality gifts, maybe decorations, his favorite meal from an upscale restaurant or homemade.

Having to argue that your partner should value you and do nice things for you is an exercise in futility. They should already be doing that. I've never had to be asked for effort on birthdays or holidays because I want my partner to feel special and so I put in that effort myself. Like an adult with a brain.

Haha, a person like OP's husband would call you heartless and you can see how "valuable" they are, so don't even let them bother you :)

You have a great point, thank you. Telling on themselves LOL.

Ah yes. My STBX would become enraged when I would clean the home while he sat on his ass watching TV because "You're trying to make me feel guilty about not helping."

Can't believe how long it took to realize what a POS he is. Like yeah bud, I'm making you feel guilty. Not your conscience or anything.

6 more months. That's all I need to endure.

Soon to be ex husband. I'm planning my exit strategy (actually not planning, I'm halfway through it, paying down all my debt and amassing items in my secret storage locker for when I move out).

Yes and getting your docs secure and such, good move. Sorry you're dealing with that trash but when that's done you're going to feel like a whole new, happier person

This concept needs to be more recognized; it’s a central part of the thesis of ‘Why does he do that’ and really opened my eyes.

I used to wonder why my ex was acting that way until I realized that he wasn’t acting any way— he was that way, but he’d managed to hide it for the first year and a half of our relationship. I realized that his excuses about work, family, my friends etc, we all just excuses to start to normalize and introduce me to his true self. If I’d been more clear about my boundaries with myself, and not fallen into the trap of “communication” I would have saved myself so much pain.

I agree. The messed up part though is that society gaslights you. Everyone tells you to communicate. The problem is, if someone doesn't want to change or listen you can't make them. You can only control yourself. There's a quote I heard once that ties into this.

"Some people will not hear you regardless of how much, how loud, how truthful, how loving, or how profound you speak. Wish them well and let them go."

Thanks for posting this. I just deleted a bunch of numbers from my phone of people who have done that and I am. nit talking to anyway. It's a pre-fds backlog I have cleared out.
