Imo, let kids play with whatever toys they want as long as its safe and it doesn't do them any harm. My oldest nephew is 6 and loves tutus and unicorns (he has a tutu he loves wearing) and also was the only boy invited to a recent classmates unicorn themed party. He also has a hardcore love of monster trucks and pro wrestling. I don't think his love of "feminine" things has tainted his masculinity at all. Let kids be kids.

When I worked at a daycare, one of our centers was “imaginary play”. The center included all sorts of dress up outfits like princess skirts and dresses, police officer costume, doctor costume, etc. and included all sorts of used purses and accessories for the kids to play with. And while some of the kids conformed to gender norms, a lot of them liked to use both “boy” and “girl” items. One day in the morning while parents were slowly dropping off kids, all of the boys went all in on the “girl” items like the pink sparkly dresses, skirts, purses, and beads. I thought it was adorable. But I was SHOCKED at the number of parents who were dropping off going out of their way to make comments and faces at the boys acting like it was equivalent to seeing a group of aliens in the classroom!

My son got a hold of one of my old dolls from childhood and was kissing it and rocking it and singing it rock a bye baby. He’s 2.5. I had already bought him his own for Christmas cuz i had a hunch he’d love it, He is the most HVM i know!
