I’ll probably get downvotes but I don’t think asking her where she was seems unreasonable to me? If my boyfriend told me he was with a particular friend all day and I found out he wasn’t I, at the very least, would start asking questions. Maybe not jump immediately to cheating, but still.

Am I crazy, or are the commenters? Why would a dude flip out on a gf he’s about to propose to after 3 years just because she claims she was with her best friend? Like any of you guys use this excuse to get out of saying that you were working on something, had a doctor Appt, or needed to go shopping for pants that fit?

To be fair I think I’d assume cheating in this case too. Maybe that’s cause I just tell my partner the truth about where I am. Seems weird to me to make something up. Surely the truth is easier than a lie?

The only time I’d lie and say I’m doing something I’m not is when I’m too lazy to go out and need an excuse.

I dont think you can equate the two. OP wasnt lying about being with her best friend. He didn't say he was with her at all. And yes, there might be a completely innocent explanation for her lie, like for example she may have been with his best friend, buying him some kind of present. But if I was in a relationship that was serious enough to be heading toward a proposal, I wouldn't be lying to my SO about who I was with. Like it sounds like she was already out meeting someone, don't see why she wouldn't just say she was still with them if she wasn't up to something dodgy.
