Yep 😭. Its so unfortunate that after my friends go through a breakup, they lay every bad thing out for us women to talk it over, and only then do they realize exactly how bad the relationship was.

I found out that writing stuff down in a diary also helps to get more objective perspective

One time my ex was going on one of his unhinged rants where he would just say anything he could think of to hurt my feelings and I decided to write it down as he was speaking. Not only did it help me maintain some objective distance from his words, and not only did it take the wind out of his sails when he realized he wasn’t getting to me, but when I went back to read it afterwards it really put the nail in the coffin of our ‘relationship’. It was blindingly obvious that his words were borne of sadistic cruelty rather than personal aggravation like he claimed.

I still go back to it sometimes when I want to remind myself
