When my toxic father died, it was a relief. He managed to croak two weeks before I was to let my kid meet him (without me being there) because my kid was curious and had been for years. My kid got to see him in a casket. I think mother nature stepped in and took him out for us both.

Things got kind of worse in my family-- or maybe it was that I wasn't able to recognize how contagious his toxicity became over time, and our immediate family is large. At the end I think he recognized what he had done, and regretted it.
