I am all for education, but I definitely think there are other means of educating oneself than just going to college. I think the university system is great for research, but definitely not for those just looking for your run-of-the-mill corporate job. But, as we all know, a company won't hire you simply because you self-studied, no-- you must first pay thousands of dollars (and in some cases, hundreds of thousands of dollars) to get a piece of paper from an accredited institution that 'proves' you have actually learned a subject that most likely isn't even applicable to your job tasks.
I think we can all admit to some degree that American universities have exploited young people (especially lower-class ones) who were told that going thousands of dollars into debt to get a degree is worth it. These universities have completely taken advantage of teenage naivety / wishful thinking and have raised tuition tenfold over the last few decades.
This makes me think about two things:
First, if almost all of America can agree that exploitation of young and naive people exists (as seen through the college education system), why can't we admit that the same thing is happening with the porn/sex work industries? Ahh, that's right-- men think that having their dicks pleasured is a human right, and libfem pickmes think that it's empowering for men to spend literal pocket change to subscribe to their OnlyFans.
Second, I can name multiple females in my life who have engaged in sex work in order to pay college tuition. University presidents/admins HAVE to know that young girls are doing this, yet every year they still decide to hike tuition another 5%. This is what happens when you are living in a system run by men and pickmes. If I ran a business in a multi-billion $ industry and knew that thousands of teenage girls were selling their bodies just to pay for my extremely overpriced services, I would at the very MINIMUM say something about it. But of course, University presidents and administrators like to act like this issue doesn't exist. And the libfem narratives that have been spread about sex work being empowering gives these administrators even more of an excuse to not do anything about this HUGE issue.
America is a mess.
