As a woman in a refuge, it will mean more if you can donate tangible goods. On my first night here, there was a huge bag on my bed filled with things such as pyjamas, toothpaste, toothbrush, make up, toiletries etc. It really meant a lot as some women flee with nothing but the clothes on their back. We get sanitary products, food and little treats to pamper ourselves with. The kids here always appreciate toys. One girl got nothing for her birthday last Friday but a member of staff was able to source some donated toys. Her tears disappeared and she was happy!

In addition to the very valid and accurate things everyone has already said, usually the local DA, solicitor, and public defender offices have a list of local women and children’s shelters and resources that they can give you.

From there, you can call the individual ones that speak to you up and ask what they need and how to give.
