Jesus, the UK government is sick. How will marking and stigmatizing ex prisoners help anyone? At least there’s an example of human decency to balance such madness.

I’ve always loved Timpson, on a few occasions they’ve done a quick fix on a watch and refused payment, instead asking me to just put some money in the charity jar.

So it’s no surprise that it’s a company run by this wonderful man, James Timpson.A Chief Executive who’s rehabilitated over one thousand five hundred ex-prisoners through gainful employment.

Not out of charity, or even out of goodness, but because he rightly believes these people are highly valuable, have a lot to offer, are driven and are an asset to his company, or any other.

It’s for this reason that James follows Mary Curnock Cook and Earl Silverman as the third recipient of my Tin Heart Award <3

Exactly, men being "overrepresented" in prison doesn't stem from the idea that men are innately "evil" or "worse" than women, there are usually serious, systemic issues that force men into the life of crime.

I read an article a while back that found if men were treated as leniently as women were throughout the court system, there would be ~80% fewer men in prison today, this would go a long way in equalizing the disparity between men and women in prison, it wouldn't result in an equal split, but it would be a lot closer than the 93:7 disparity we are currently seeing.

This, FYI, doesn't even account for bias in arrest, conviction and prosecution, it is known that men on average are more likely to be stopped and arrested by the police for the same action as a woman, this alone would go a long way in closing down the disparity.

A lot of the rest can also be chalked up to systemic issues such as homelessness, where men are often pushed into crime in order to survive because they aren't receiving an adequate amount of welfare, or there aren't enough shelters to service them (there was also a study released that found men in poverty are more likely to commit robberies, whereas women would be pushed more into the realm of prostitution and sex work).

Or even child support, another systemic issue, it is estimated that ~12% (1/8) of men in prison are there due to their inability to afford child support payments, this alone would close down a large portion of the disparity.

I walk past Timpson everyday in my town, I actually know a staff member that went to jail for burglary and he’s been working there for 7+ years now. It’s a familiar face that I always see.

Wow, this is so beautiful that my eyes welled up a bit. It's almost as if men being treated with love, care, and compassion for the first time in their lives will overwhelmingly be grateful for it and show themselves worthy of it.

I don't know know man. Rehabilitation of criminals who didn't do serious crimes like murder and rape, is good idea but I am kinda against rehabilitation of murderer and rapist, because i don't think it would work 100% and would be injustice for the innocent murder victim or victims and his/her/they families. Same with rapes.

Edit- hope you guys also add a centrist flair.
