Crosspost "I cannot believe how seriously mens issues are being treated in this WHO report!" from /r/MensRights:
http://www.euro.who.int/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/378165/68wd12e_MensHealthStrategy_180480.pdf?ua=1
BTW: not sure if you know but only 4 countries have a specific mens health policy.
The report is good news... it means, if charaties, and NGOs will work on these things, research will be done, PHD's and dissertations written and more media news.... this could actually lead to job opprutnities for people interested in mens issues (it wont even be framed as mens issues, so we could have legit mainstream jobs and mens health could be a part of medicine)... its a good example of just being able to work on mens issues without the "MRA label" too... e.g. if I had an oppurutnuy to do a disseration on above issues at university I would, didnt really have a chance, but more stuff like this peopel will get a chance now as the topics are out there. There might be fierce oppostion from feminsits groups as they will want all the funding, so have to be aware of that. For example a lot of DV propaganda, feminits dont even believe it, they just know they need it to get the funding and cushy jobs e.g. Refuge (very feminst DV group) CEO is on around 500,000 dollars a year with benifits and expenses and thats government funded charity.
This is also an area of MRA that is hard for rational people to argue against, they will look like crazy deluded man hating feminists if they do... however, we all know how hard they will try and fight this! We have to be wary! Im sure feminists will try and spin this as look feminism has the answer, let us deal with you know, a mens issue, bang on about toxic masculinity and patriachy being route cause of all of this and also try and defund mens health were possible and also have biased reporting.
Actually read through the report, it says some really interesting things. I picked up on how men report better subjective health despite having much worse health, and is a reflection of gynocentrism and how men dont perceive themselves as having gendered issues. This is good in some ways, as certainly men must not get a victim complex like feminsits have (and men really dont and MRAs defintely don't, its just a common smear) but this thinking is also bad because mens issues are not dealt with
Also, Im pretty sure it will be hijacked by feminists, especially the bit about violence prevention... they will some how make the 90% of all murder victims of murder are men in many countries somehow a feminists issue and women primary victims.
