Question on NPD and men

It’s a very subjective diagnosis imho, so I doubt it.

In a gynocentric society, women hardly have to act to reach the same goals that narcissistic men strife after. So it’s easier for them to be narcissistic without being noticed.

Also, bad behaviour by women is often seen as a reaction to patriarchal oppression, while bad behaviour by men is just seen as bad behaviour.

Third, ‘dark triad’ men have some attraction for certain women. So it may even pay for narcissistic men to be openly narcissistic.

So we must take a lot in consideration before believing a statement just like that.

I think it's a little of both. I do bc of the way we socialize children that women are more likely to develop Borderline pd, and men are more likely to develop NPD. There is a lot of overlap between the 2.

And also bc of societal expectations, women are more likely to be diagnosed with BPD, and men are more likely to be diagnosed with NPD or even ASPD.

I think the reason is because most of the characteristics of NPD sort of fall down the typical masculinity spectrum of behaviors.

Think of an overly presenting masculine man and you'll notice a big disconnect with empathy towards others and a person who believes they are the main character in the worlds story.

A savvy businessman displays many characteristics of NPD and in fact may very well be that savvy business man because of NPD.

I think its dangerous to assume more men have NPD than women, when in my opinion a typical man who is very stoic already possesses some of the traits of NPD by default.

What's scarier is the way women who exhibit NPD are often displaying characteristics we see in a lot of women. Often manipulating men to get what they want, pitting friends against one another for their own gain or to make themselves feel more attractive than their friends.

Think about the pictures you see of a group of very attractive women and then the 1 girl front and center who isn't as attractive as the rest. That is done on purpose to make the others feel more pretty! That is a form of NPD as they are lacking empathy and using someone else for their own self gain. Its why women typically have that one "fat friend" because being around them makes them feel better about themselves.

If you listen to the way they talk to that one "friend" you'll see them hyping them up and saying how pretty and attractive they are. You hear it and cringe because you know its not genuine nor true, but the reason they do this is to keep that person around as a dopamine hit to base their own superiority of attractiveness over that person to those around who can see them together.

When men exhibit NPD they use people typically for personal gain in the way of power/wealth. When women use it they tend to do so for ego! They will string men along, cheat, love bomb etc etc to keep getting the attention they want/need.

Interesting find, but I can't interpret the data. Could be useful for therapy in the future.

i have some doubts that NPD is simply less detected in women i dont have any hard evidence on me for this though
