What are the common historical misconceptions/nuances people tend to neglect, forget, or think in regards to men and women? Likewise, what do you think of the term "honorary male"?

One example is "The Rule Of Thumb", or how a husband shouldn't beat his wife with something thicker than his thumb, IIRC. Except, no such law ever existed, and there may be evidence the "law" was simply a joke.

Likewise, I was looking up honorary male, and I was quite surprised how much women were celebrated.
