90% of counsellors are not worth your time and effort. The reason you talk with theses folks is some are actually very smart and very good and can help you. Most are not. Having a smart neutral party in the room can help sort things out better for everyone. What most people do not understand is that counseling often highlights and confirms what is wrong with that relationship.

If you are in a room that talks about how horrible you are for weeks, get up and leave. That is not going to help anyone.

Went to couples counseling 1 time and 1 time only. It was painfully obvious what was going on from the very start. In the very first session, it was simply a 2 on 1 attack against my supposed inability to do anything right. My #1 regret in life is ever being stupid enough to get married. Marriage counseling is a setup to gather evidence against the man in divorce court. That's all it is.

My experience was different from most. I called off the engagement and my fiance got us to go to counseling -- where the counselor did identify some problems of mine, but basically agreed we shouldn't get married. I bailed.

The worst was the church, about a month before. You're required to take a compatibility test at the church we went to and the pastor came in shocked and said in 20 years, he had never seen a less-compatible couple, but hey, good luck on our wedding! Didnt go over it with us to point out how stupid we were being. It did, however, plant the seeds of doubt that got me to call off the engagement in the first place.

When I went to a marriage councilor, it was basically just me dunking on my now ex wife while she cried and called me abusive, but couldn't give any examples. After 3 sessions she was ready to leave and I've never been happier (other than the alimony bullshit)

My parents hated being married but rather than talk it out my cunt of a mother forced me and my brothers to go to family counseling. My dad said fuck that and didn't go so since I was the scapegoat I had to listen to this asshole tell everyone why it was my fault and then my mother cried and complained for an hour straight. Neither of my brothers said a word.

Counselling is ridiculous. A good woman obeys her husband and doesnt take him for granted. Vast majority of these bitches you see in society are not worthy of marriage. Your grandparents would laugh at this silly idea of marriage counselling. It's mostly womens fault anyway but noone ever blames them.

Believe me, courts and counselors of all types know that women are emotionally crippled by taking responsibility for their actions, and therefore it's more lucrative to pretend that men are doing something wrong, because they are undeniably more likely to try to fix problems. My brother and I were sitting at a bar sharing a beer when a female sat next to my brother and started flirting with him. So he introduces me to her and explains to her that I am married with sons and she proceeds to ask if I am raising them to respect women ... my brother looks at me with this look since he knows she pushed one of my buttons and I look her dead in the eye and say,” I understand where you think you are coming from... so let me ask, were you raised to respect men and give them what they need?” “What does a woman do for a man? What is the most important thing a woman gives a man? How do you serve a man’s needs if he serves yours?” She just just stared at me since all three of us knew we were talking about blowjobs and fucking and she just was flabbergasted someone called her on her bullshit. I never raised my voice or got animated - just asked the questions honestly and sincerely and with a feaux attitude or caring about our conversation. Always fun to turn the tables on women at the bar where there are a dozen witnesses and she cannot falsely accuse you of anything.

Yeah, couples counseling is just spicy expensive juried arguements. . Wherein usually the person conducting it is female and automatically biased because she has a pseudoscience degree in listening to other's BS and willingness to conduct her/his psyche experimentations (on your own relationship). And its always practice to them so that they may charge higher rates later on when they've experimented on enough couples to justify their price gouging per hour.

I knew 1 GOOD therapist-and it was a man who earlier cheated on his wife and then remarried and gained legitimacy because he knew he was wrong and why he did it. And grew from it and holds himself accountable- even open about that. The only person to come close to this was my lesbian friend who called it how she saw it-and she never charged 180 an hour and more often had great listening skills and advice.

I'm mixed on relationship counseling. On one hand, if you are afraid to be open and talk with your partner candidly, you are in a bad relationship and no amount of counseling will help. Now, if you see a relationship counselor for ideas on how to make what you have stronger (I know, I'm an idealist), that's fine.

That being said, I've know three in my lifetime. One was a professor, one worked at a hospital part time and another was just by chance. The professor (male) took the time to figure things out from both sides and made a point to never choose one side (side note: best professor I ever had). The other two (females) admitted it was just easier to blame the man and therefore keep them coming to therapy AND getting paid.
