I know a woman who is in Laura's shoes re debt and degree, but still makes decent money by doing little in her cushy office job and sitting on her fat ass all day.

In 5 years Laura will be 50lbs heavier, Larry will have $50k more saved.

in 5 and 1/2 years Larry will put a ring on it. blowing 50K on the ring wedding and honeymoon.
in 6 years Larry walks in on Laura and Chad and Tyrone.
in 6.5 years Larry finally saved enough to help his mom with the electric bill. Its the least he could do after living on her sofa the past half year from the divorce rape.

Don't you bring that evil on me Ricky Bobby!

I couldn’t make what I make without a degree. Those examples are definitely exceptions, not rules

Trades are not glamorous and can break your body down.
I'll pass on being "Larry"

I went to trade school for CAD. Good pay, not wearing my body out, unless you count the time spent on the bicycle on my days off.

I bet you don’t even lift

Please tell how would it break body down? Is it possible that there are better alternatives? What are those? Would they help the body? I am curious to know your views

College degrees can still be very valuable today, but too many people are doing it wrong.

Bezos former wife didn't earn that money.

Gave up her career as a writer? George R R Martín has a net worth of $80 million, after a long life of successes, including the TV show Game of Thrones
Bezos former wife got $38 billion.
Besides, she kept writing. She has written at least two books.
And "helped build Amazon". She only worked as an accountant there for a while, before continuing her career as a writer
[–]Doll-lover-3 points-2 points-1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Like you already stated she helped! I am not saying the amount was fair but then again it didn't hurt him and he was fine with it, how else do you explain the divorce going though so fast? Anyway you get my point.
[–]quijote30001 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The kid serving hamburgers for a year in a place near old Amazon HQ helped more to amazon creation. He didn't get 38 billion.
And he was fine losing $38 billion? Like, really?

Giving blowjobs to an inventor doesn't make you an inventor. She deserves nothing.
What did he invent? He started an online store he didn't invent anything? He started an online store and she helped, like it or not but that's a fact.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm not saying Bezos is an inventor, but generally speaking just because the woman was there doesn't mean she deserves shit, has she done anything that Bezos couldn't? If I gave Bezos a sandwich one day I theoretically also helped him create Amazon.

it depends on the field tho, I have friends making 70k+ as software engineering graduating from a noname school. It was only like 3-4k a semester full time.

That was my choice. My last 2 yrs of school I went to a vocational school. While everyone else stayed at the local school have a fun jr/sr year in high school. Out of 5 friends. Only two went to college. Go a master's and just one of them paid of their school dept off. Fuck. When they were still in school I bought my first house. 5yrs after graduation
Seems like you’re the one looking down on other people for what they do for a living

I went to a trade school, and ended up with an office job. So my body won't be used up by the time I'm in my mid-40's.

I did Technical Chemistry, a 2 years course that my school had for free and I build my house and bought a new car in less than 5 years.

You don't make 80k a year in 2 years as a mechanic....... I'm happy I'm a tradee over all, but this is a gross over simplification and gross exaggeration of what it's like. Trades can be tough and they're not for everyone. Be sure to ask a person in the trade you want to learn for his thoughts before you dive in
[–]ExtremelyPoopyBHole0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You're not going to go to tech school and immediately make 80K you retarded boomer
[–]EquilibriumMan0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately the meme ignores the fact that personal connections make all the difference for both paths. I did try the right path before going to college only to find that the various union halls required an insane amount of wood shop experience in HS before they would even look at you. Nvm the fact that my idiotic school admins never replaced my shop teacher when he retired so I only had two semesters. People who have done the journeyman thing find that like in Asia and the professional path you need to have an inside person to have a chance
[–]Silversiberia0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think the last statement is true.
[–]prostate-apostate0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You think car mechanics make 80k a year ??
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
nice, I hate it
[–]Flashmode10 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nonsense post. Average college graduate finished around 30k in debt. Most college graduates earn around 50k a year with their first jobs on average. College grads have better job security and significantly more jobs available.
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/15/college-grads-expect-to-earn-60000-in-their-first-job----few-do.html
Most blue collar professionals won’t make as much as a white collar and the work takes a significant toll on the body. 80k is a nonsense number for trades. Most of the skilled trades average around 40-50k a year after many years of experience.
