If you're serious in your question, I recommend the book A Fighter's Heart by Sam Sheridan.
Sheridan presents the fighting arts not as an exercise in senseless violence but a means towards achieving a man's truest potential through the most intense physical, mental and spiritual hardship.
It is only in the arena of combat, when facing an opponent who has the ability and intention to destroy him, that a man can measure his true worth.
The true warrior does not hate his opponent, rather he is grateful to his opponent, for it is his opponent who pushes him beyond his limits, to achieve feats that hitherto seemed beyond his reach.
[–]Futureman9992 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
The trouble with real world violence is it's frequently not consensual. In the movies it's always two rival samurais or gunfighters at dawn. In real life it's usually a big guy who wants to smash the face of a smaller guy. So a lot of guys are attracted to the proven effectiveness of MMA compared to old school bullshido.

I am making bricks by speculating in the stock market. If you're in a relationship, you can't just look at stock charts all day long.
[β]HaterOfHypocrisy7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It's good that you're profiting from speculation, but you should keep in mind that the ups and downs of the stock market is effectively completely random. Studies have shown that there is no actual way to predict how stocks will perform.
[β]GhostArmorMode3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It's not about prediction, it's about risk management.

[β]ShunSeb471 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I know that stock prices vary due to two major factors: 1.) Demand and Supply 2.) The revenue generated by the company, goes up if they surpass the predicted earnings or previous year's earnings.
I'm 21 in last year of uni pursuing engineering. Really interested in investing in the stock market once I start a full time job.

The dumb cunts over in subs like /r/TrollXChromosomes, which thought they would benefit from this movement by having creeps ceasing to flirt with them, has actually only resulted in the fair-minded man taking heed and staying the fuck away from any possible allegation of being poundmetooβd. You know what their response is?
βImagine having so little self awareness that you donβt know when your approach is considered wanted, or creepy.β
Lmao dumb bitch, either way it isnβt worth it because even a hawt guy can get accused of rape just because you want the attention from your girlfriends and give off the image that youβre wanted.
[β]rationalthought3145 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The lack of self awareness in that comment is autistic levels. How in hell is a guy supposed to know what his SMV is to any given girl when you have 3s thinking they deserve 9s and 10s. What they call creepy is just some poor sap who isn't good looking enough trying his luck.
[β]flee_market1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Also, they literally never make a clear approach. When they approach at all it's always with plausible deniability so that they can backpedal if rejected and save face/ego.
Guess how my last ex approached me?
By lurking awkwardly nearby until I said hi.

In all seriousness, men could better utilize their time outside of video games. Unless done in light moderation, it's an empty activity providing little to no productivity.
Not to shit on any parades, but business, networking, study, inventions and self improvement are the building blocks of what create great men. Wasting time is not, which essentially is what video games is.
With that said, I love me a good gaming session. Keep improving and growing men.
[β]Tipofthemorni62 points63 points64 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Guess what, life's worth isn't measured by productivity. We are not cogs in a machine.
[β]Drozz4222 points23 points24 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's in the name and everything, yet here we are being criticized for making our own decisions. Classic.
[β]Bablebooey923 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I'd say it is. Productivity doesn't necessarily have to be work fot pay, it could mean simply increasing skill in a hobby. Granted, I do think bieng a gamer is a hobby of sorts, but I'm not really as big in them as I used to be - I find them boring and vapid (I could blame the current quality of gamrs and publishers)
To me though in comparison to my other hobbies they aren't usually shareable, as say playing guitar can be. And while they offer challenges, they are simple man made ones rather than the intricate and seemingly endless goals for hobbies like personal fitness or music - you could practice everyday and still never achieve perfection.
I still game from time to time, but I'll never sink hours in again like I did as a teen. That's feels more wasteful than enjoyable.
[β]hkl8324-4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why pick on video games though?
Why not other forms of fiction such as movies, TV, books and comics?
Or other pastimes like drugs, alcohol, gambling and unsafe sex?
Video games are an inexpensive way to enjoy yourself and unwind. Not everyone wants to spend every waking hour at 100% utilization.
[+]zuhbooze-6 points-5 points-4 points 7 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
Look at the top comment and picture. It's unfortunate how sensitive men are about their video games.
MTGOW repeatedly bash women for "downtime" hobbies (social media, gossip & being glued to their phones) yet video games are an exception?
You'd have thought I was anti-gaming and preached how nobody should play them. I game. The soft world we live in.
[β]elementalwalruss19 points20 points21 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Because social media, gossip and being glued to their phones is because they seek more and more attention or try to shit-talk others.
Meanwhile gaming isn't hurting anyone else, but yourself if you overdo it.
[β]MuShuGordon7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I got hurt a few years ago in the Marine Corps. Now I sit around at home, play with the dogs, and put a ton of time into video games. When I feel like being super productive I practice frequent vomiting due to pain. It's wonderful how I can turn so much liquid into a projectile.
[β][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I wasn't aware HOW one wastes their time mattered. How do we rank categories of time wasting over other categories on the time wasting hierarchy tree?
[β]elementalwalruss1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
If you're wasting time trying to entertain yourself without caring what others think (and it's not illegal) - good.
If you waste time seeking attention and trying to make yourself look better in the eyes of others or to make others look worse - bad
[β][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
But it is only "bad" if those others actually give a shit what the thot does or says, so it is basically a nonissue. Just a bunch of dysfunctional people being who they are. To a mgtow it is irrelevant altogether since a mgtow doesn't give a shit what any of those people think or say.
[β]elementalwalruss0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well I disagree. You kinda have to give a shit, otherwise you wouldn't be going away from women if you didn't care at all.
MTGOW repeatedly bash women for "downtime" hobbies (social media, gossip & being glued to their phones)
because that's all they do. they aren't productive
[β]hkl83240 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They are using your resources to do the above. Not vice versa.
[β]letsriseup21 points22 points23 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Videogames are just as valid an entertainment option as whatever else a guy enjoys for fun.
[β]Mapispema-ta14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[β]maggot_brain798 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Man, I used to really hate this kind of talk back when I was really into video games, but I gotta say, I mostly agree with you. I mean, video games are still great and an awesome way to spend downtime, but there are so many other things that you can do even as just a hobby that will improve your life greatly. Recently I've been starting to renovate my home a little bit and it's been keeping me busy. I actually find it to be really fun, challenging and satisfying. I don't play video games very often anymore, and when I do I'm usually thinking the whole time of more useful things I could be doing. Not sure why.
A lot of guys get angry about this and I do agree that life isn't about how productive you're being, especially in terms of a job, you know, being productive for some pain in the ass boss or manager. But when it's a labor of love or something that will improve your life, it's worth being productive. A lot of guys don't want to hear it but it is true. Tough love I guess, right?
[β]1532634680 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
i think of relaxing with playing video games while im productive. it's become a motivator, even though i only play 1-2 hours or less a week. i played a lot when i grew up. for me, productive is what creates something that lasts longer than the moment it was created in. games can be productive when they are new experiences or when they change the mood to the better. in excess it can be busywork that leaves little behind, and you got to wonder if that is what you would want to have done looking back to it. playing can be useful to fast-forward time when having to wait for divorce.

[β]Chairman_Ellen_Pao2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[β]oirectine003 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I play a lot of video games, but I am also one of the most respected and valued employees in my entire department. This is largely due to my commitment to self improvement and further developing my skillset.
The beauty of MGTOW is that I have enough time to spend a few hours a day on video games AND develop myself professionally because I am not spending three quarters of the day walking on eggshells trying to appease someone who just wants my money and half my stuff.
[β]anonymaccount6662 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I think that moderation in everything is one of the key to a happy life.
[β]DreadPirateRosco1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think you're right. Too much of a good thing makes it bad.
[β]hrm08942 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Damn, I went my own way because Idgaf about being judged by women, but now I'm being judged by a fellow MGTOW!!
[β]elementalwalruss1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree that not everything is good when it's in excess, but I don't think gaming is the only thing. It can count for anything. I'd say if there are other things you enjoy doing as much or more than gaming, which are more meaningful for you, then yes wasting time with gaming isn't good. But if there's not much else you enjoy doing more, I think it's fine as long as, again, you don't overdo it at the detriment of other parts of your life.
No one says you have to waste all your time on gaming either. You can easily find time to do self-improvement unless you game every second you're awake. I also don't think it's necessary to do business, networking, study or inventions. We all live our lives and if one doesn't enjoy it and is already where he wants to be, what's the point.

What did they think would happen?
They thought that by acting this way they would weed out the lower 90% of men and the top 10% would just appear. When that didn't happen they blame men for not putting in any effort. They literally think they can just sit back and that top 10% man would find them because they are worth it.
They would be miserable if they got a top 10% man and for some reason the lower 90% didn't appear because they want to turn men down at the same time while being pursued.
If they did get a top 10% man all of a sudden they would want a top 1% man who of course doesn't exist outside of fiction because he's made up.
