I definitely went through that phase of feeling liberated and empowered to feel like I don't need a relationship but as time has gone by, the past month or more my thoughts have dribbled into darker perceptions of this lifestyle. The realization that I won't be having a family, something that I used to regard as my end goal to be happy, has put some holes in my morale and drive. On the contrary that lots of men going their own way tend to feel more involved and driven for their career, as almost a 21 y/o in college I feel less motivation and drive to continue.

I feel discouraged by a veil being lifted from my eyes and seeing society's gender role BS tear up this nation and its origin of family driven values. I feel like an outsider unable to find people uncorrupted by societal influence in a negative manner as candidates for friends. I have trouble finding independent thinkers, essentially the only people I would gladly hangout with. For this reason I feel like my social status in the future will be low as well as my social interest and circles. Not that any of those things are that important, but it just adds to the pot of being in the place I am in now. My entire life I've felt lonely, and relationships were an addictive substance, they were a high to medicate that loneliness with a companion. Now that so much has happened, I know like with any addictive drug you lose in the end. The problem is when you go back home and everyone around you is back on the same drug you were.

In sum, I guess my main problem is finding something to strive for. I feel like I have no place in where this world is headed, and my instincts are still wired to serve a purpose resulting in a constant existential struggle. Attractive women, couples with their kids, seeing any of that now is a piercing reminder of what I used to fill my void of purpose with. I wake up every morning refusing to get out of bed for sometimes hours because of how angry and disappointed I feel. I suppose I just grew up with a much different idea of how this world played out. But I must admit, sometimes I do miss the days when I had love songs in my playlist.

Did anyone else go through this? And what did you do to help yourself?
