Divorce after 19 years

Don’t know if my post went through. So I’ll share my story - married over 15 years together 19 or so. 2 kids & a business together. Normal problems of most marriages. I thought “we” were different - that it only happened to other people. I’m in good shape, a great dad, and cared about her deeply. I would have said she was my best friend too - at Least until the last three years or so.

I never cheated, did drugs, etc or anything else that would have warranted leaving. In my eyes- it wasn’t just negative duties - I tried to be good to her every day. Not saying I was perfect -but if I’m so bad why does She want to operate business with me. (Rafting company).

Five weeks ago just after she filed the divorce - she tells me that she’s seeing someone - they guy is 50, bald, and out of shape. Me - great dad - patient, kind, and actively involved. I’m also in shape - lift weights and do boxing workouts 2x week.

So now I miss my kids 50% of the time, which is the worst. I love being their dad - taking them to school, cooking, cleaning, and leading them to adulthood. I used to love checking on them at night - if I heard them breathing- I’d sleep well - on the nights I don’t have them - I pretend that I just don’t want to wake them and say goodnight from the hall. It’s what gets me through.

I know a lot of you speak of divorce rape - and in particular the loss of money - but honestly- I www poor for most of my life - in the past 5 years I’ve hit some good fortune- no debt and I have a large amount of liquid cash wealth. I could lose that and I’d be ok - I’m a hard worker and I’d climb the mountain again and again until the light behind my eyes goes out for good. But losing 50% of my time with them that is the real pain - it rips me up when they are gone and lifts my soul when they return home.

Almost 20 years. There goes his retirement. I work with so many older guys who should've retired years ago

It's the same sad story every time. The wives create a Tinder profile and see all the thirsty dick they can have inside them and POOF! Bye bye hardworking beta husband, bye bye family unit, and CHU-fucking-CHING in rolls the child support money, alimony payments, and round and round the carousel she goes getting pumped and dumped repeatedly until the wheels come off.

Dude, I see this all the time where I work. These poor fellas are married for 20 years while their wives are stay at home moms. Mid life crisis hits and wifey wonders if she can do better. Dude loses half his 401k and pension (we have both), pays alimony and loses the house. It's an absolute game changer to these men and future retirement.

You're young and have this information available. It wasn't widely known when your colleague got married.

Yup and all those guys marrying now (28-35) are shaming all the single men that they need to find the right woman.

I see it all the time on other subs and in real life.

Give it a few years or a decade and chances are it will end ugly.

I'm curious how much money your colleague spent on the wedding.

My manager who got divorced after ten years spent $30k.

If you marriage survives five years (over half do not), then next waive of divorce kicks in when the kids grow up and move out or go to college. the husband and wife find that without the kids, they have nothing left in common. Not sure if that's the case here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.
