Go look up "how to fire your wife" and follow those instructions- should be easier for you since you're not actually married. You're right to think she's going to go for 0 income to make her payout bigger. You need to be ready to move quick if she tries it because the court is probably going to look at 3 months of paystubs and a year of bank acct activity during discovery (this is for divorce proceedings, obviously your situation is different.)

When she finds out the door is closing on her she is going to flip the fuck out be ready to record her at any time and if she escalates to physical violence don't call the cops to your home, go to the police station and get a restraining order.

She's going to pull every card in the deck to fuck you over in the child support arena so don't show any mercy - make the system work for you by taking away all her weapons and using them against her. If you walk into an arbitration hearing with a stack of police reports and arrest records on her and proof she quit her job to falsify evidence of income she will be dryboned in the browneye and it will be the greatest day of your life- and also helpful to your kid for years into the future.

getting rich quick rarely if ever works. This is the best time in the past decade since the last economic downturn to get into the stock market, it'll never be cheaper. It will take time still but you can scoop up several blue chip stocks for the cheapest price they'll ever be for a decade. For example, Boeing is $120 a share right now, that is absurdly undervalued. Now you may ask but planes are fucked, nobody flying, and they're already in hot water for the failed 737 Max. Sure but who is going to come in and replace them all the while fulfilling the other plane model orders as well as honoring military contracts. The day will come where they are back to trading north of 300 a share but again it'll take time. You can go small time and buy retailers or credit processing companies that will boom as soon as transactions start picking up again. It is a time where if you put 3-5k in right now and do it wisely you can more than likely double in 6-12 months.

First and foremost you have to break off the engagement, otherwise depending on where you are, it might be treated like a marriage.

Secondly, stop spending any money on her, and get a lawyer. You definitely need to consult one.

Thirdly, making quick bucks - lot, I wish. But if you know coding, you could try freelancing a few jobs.

Regardless of your financial situation, you gotta call this off soon, and fight for equal custody.

(OP. I'm going into this assuming you're from the US.)

Obviously, you're better off making that 10k that you need off the books instead of on.

How can you make 10k, off the books, quickly?

Aside from not claiming your earnings, the most "legal" avenues to choose would be subcontracting. Whether that be construction, installation, etc. Swinging hammers and replacing roofs can be done part time, and you'd be looking at $25-30 (non-taxed) per hour. Scrubbing toilets and cleaning houses can fetch you the same amount of cash, so long as you are the "contractor", and not a "subcontractor" (working for minimum wage via someone else's cleaning company.)

Now, if you want the money quicker (and easier), you may have to look into less legal routes. For instance, there are 10+ states that have legal marijuana. An ounce of pot in a legal state will cost you $100, which you can then sell for 3x that amount in an illegal state.

If you go the more legal route in being a contractor/subcontractor, you could have your 10k in less than a year... but the baby's mother will be aware that something is up though, because your work week is going to be greatly extended. Kind of hard to explain to her that instead of getting home from work at 4:30 every day, you're now getting home at 8:00 and your weekends will also be consumed... yet, there's no extra income coming in that SHE is able to see.

If you go the pot route, assuming you know people in an illegal state and they're users (and assuming you have your own transportation), you could make your 10k in less than a month. Relatively safely. There are many unwritten rules to dealing, but one of the most important is to never do it long enough that your name gets out there as "that guy". That's when the law steps in.

There is already some decent advice here, but I will say that the only real way to "win" is to not have a kid in the first place.

Kids are a bigger anchor to your paycheck even than marriage. I suspect most men will pay less for a divorce without kids than they will pay in child support without a divorce.

I get that you already realize that, but I'm just telling you to be prepared because there isn't some kind of magical ticket out of it. As others said you need to start dealing with this NOW, because if she reduces her income you're going to be basically working her job on top of your own and sending her the paycheck. Talk to a lawyer RIGHT NOW and start preparing.

Unfortunately you have over a decade of financial ruin ahead of you, but the good news is that it will end eventually. I don't think most people will be better off trying to hide income/etc. There are some cases where somebody loses the ability to earn more income and a court won't accept this and in that case fleeing for the hills becomes the only alternative to going to prison, but you're burning all your bridges if you do that.

TLDR: Record every conversation from now on, change the power of attorney of all your assets, freeze credit cards, close bank accounts and cash your paychecks at a Walmart, do not share the same accountant if you get your taxes done professionally. As for making a quick buck, I don't know what to tell you, invest your money in the stock market, VOO is looking good, and JPM as well, DELTA is a good buy as well.

Always counter file for full custody. That way you can "settle" for joint. There is no child support for true court ordered joint custody.
