Well in her defence its not really an illusion of superiority. I was in the same position a few years back with the genders switched and the lack of stimulating conversation and attempts to psychoanalyse everything makes you want to strangle them.

I don't think it's such a bad thing to want to match with a partner on an intellectual and income level. The answerer is assuming that it's an "illusory superiority". We have no evidence that it's illusory; maybe she really is dating down? The best thing for her is that they break up now.
