When feminists say "research shows that..." or "experts found that..." I assume shit like this is where they get the information from.
[–]Careful_Description16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
This is why we peer review the methodology/data too. And if this type of stuff isn't being shared in social sciences, I can see why it's looked down upon in the scientific community.
[–]SirNickClegg1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
As someone who’s still in education, all methodology is becoming less and less important. I’ve had multiple professors completely baffled as to why I would question results when questions were phrased dubiously, or ask to review the methodology before drawing conclusions.

I've also heard that getting into the ivy leagues isn't as important as it used to be.
Institutes for education see going down the drain.

From the way women portray this "issue," you'd think a bunch of pale overweight guys jump out naked and chase women away as they attempt to declare a STEM major.
[–]maggot_brain7928 points29 points30 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Seriously, they act like a bunch of hairy ass neckbearded fedora-clad manchildren wearing stained tighty-whities chase them off with torches, pitchforks and big clubs.
Realistically, I'd bet you anything that when a woman enters a classroom for anything STEM related, those loathsome offensive and intimidating men all gather round to white-knight, help her and do her fuckin' work for her just so they might get a chance to get a whiff. Of course they won't, but that's besides the point. She'll con them into thinking they might just have a shot and that'll be all she wrote for their self-respect, dignity and pride.

Tell you a story from Berkeley. A buddy of mine used to help this girl with her Chemistry work and Math. Cal Engineering is brutal.
Anyway, one night we were all going out and he said, no we he “couldn’t come he had to help Kathy with her homework.”
I said do it later, she’s coming too. He said, “I have to do it for her it’s due tomorrow.” I said, “What the fuck? Are you doing it for her?!!”
“GET SOME GODDAMN SELF-RESPECT. I don’t care how good-looking she is. Tell her to go fuck herself and do it herself.”
Now Kathy was Berkeley hot, like a solid seven anywhere else, maybe an eight. And I wasn’t even a player. But somehow I knew not to do that.
Don’t worry, I oneitis chased a few others myself, a total white knight and pro-female clown. Luckily women used the shit out of me and I learned.

eh been there brother. No more!
[–]maggot_brain791 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Honestly, there's no shame at all in that. We've all been there, we've all done it. What matters is whether or not you managed to learn something from it. If you learned from it and developed, it wasn't wasted time or a wasted experience. That's how I view everything.
Hell, even recently I've fallen into that trap of doing shit for attractive women. I try to avoid it but it's difficult to conquer those instincts completely.
[–]combatmonk1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
If she dresses up nice for you and treats you well, a balanced exchange is fine.
[–]maggot_brain791 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Agreed, but so few of them will actually do that anymore, especially around my age group [twenties] that it makes pursuit of such an almost worthless endeavor. I am MGTOW and fully believe that in most cases, the juice isn't worth the squeeze. However I do keep my options open. I'm not a strict adherent of the AWALT principle but through my continued attempts I have found that those guys are mostly correct.
They want any relationship to benefit them solely and they care little for how their presence benefits men. The issue with their logic is that a lot of men now are waking up and realizing that they are the prize rather than the opposite. A man that cannot be swayed or convinced by sex, flirting and colorful language is terrifying to them because it subverts their entire playbook.
That's actually an important part of avoiding being a simp. Realizing what you are, why you deserve better and understanding why you won't settle. Eventually they realize that they can't game you like they could a normal man and they either give up or it makes you more desirable to them. It also makes them act better because they'll realize that if they slip up once or fail to provide that balanced utility, that man will drop them like a bad fuckin' habit and be none the worse off for it.
[–]combatmonk1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well put. Nature is self-correcting. We all awaken to the knowledge passed down from father to son for thousands of years. L

Senior Software Developer here.
Women don't "work" in STEM from my experience.
They do however spend all day on social media, tapping away on their mobile phone, gossiping, turning up late, leaving early, taking multiple sick days per month and doing their best to either (a) avoid work altogether or (b) get a man to do their work.
[–]TheDevilsAdvokaat18 points19 points20 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is how it went in my office with one woman.
She was unable to write code. When being shown how to do something she would say "I didn't know you could do that"
But she said it every time. In the end they realised she did not understand how to code; she just knew how to cut and paste. If she had to modify code she could only do it if the change was really trivial; (for example changing a value) if she had to write her own original code she could not do it at all.
None of our men were this incompetent. This woman was from the UK; however we DID also have two Asian women (one from Korea, one from China) and they were fully competent.
The UK woman (who had beautiful long blonde hair, as it happens) was eventually fired. I think she lasted about 3 months.
[–][deleted] 23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've seen this many times before. A girl who had an amazing CV (i'm also in UK) but was completely incompetent and eventually had to be sacked after 3 months. Even when she was finally given one last chance to carry out the most basic coding task, the moment the Manager walked away from her desk she turned to the guys around her and asked them how to do it.
It was satisfying watching her get escorted out of the building when they fired her.

Business analyst here in IT here and previously full stack developer, women in IT do not take initiative and tend to choose to take the easiest part of the job. When they face challenges, some of them will not flag it and wait until it’s rushing. Then cry and say they are too stressed. Meanwhile, a man has to fix the mess as soon as possible.
Also, managers in IT expect less performance for women than men for the same job. If a man has the same performance than the average woman, he will have to meet the manager and talk about to improve his performance.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've also noticed the lower expectations from women in IT. This could be something that works against women. If they are not given higher expectations, then they can never be expected to achieve more.
But then again, when forced to have higher expectations they quit and blame sexism and discrimination forced them out of the job by trying to make them work harder.
[–]teslaistheshit1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yep but they still think they're underpaid (pay gap bullshit). I dated a business intelligence (ahem) developer who claimed she was underpaid b/c of muh vagina.
I've been in IT a long time as well and to be fair there's a lot of bullshit artists out there. Mostly overpaid too. However, women in the field are just there to fill a quota. It's maddening.

[–]Infinitewisdom19841 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
As long as you have the raw and correct data, statistics are an awesome resource to have - when you have fucked up, or in this case, manipulated, data to compile your stats you get a bunch of numbers that don't really mean anything. What the question here meant to do was create a statistic that basically says 100% of the women who are in stem are discriminated against, while those who aren't discriminated against are only so because they aren't in stem. So even if only 1% of women answering the question are even in stem, the stat will still display as "100% of women in stem discriminated against, while 99% of women aren't going into stem". Then you have your narrative based on bunk stats that women aren't in stem because of discrimination.

We got a survey like this at work.
"Do you feel our company has eliminated the glass ceiling for women, or do you feel we still have a lot of progress to make?
As the survey was on paper (this was in the 90's) I actually wrote my real answer on the lines next to it.
Never got in trouble for it, even though our HR department consisted of 1 man and 5 women. The thing was, they "guaranteed anonymity" - so if they had complained about any of the answers I made I was going to point out they'd broken the anonymity clause and refuse to answer or even go to a meeting.
But nothing happened. There were quite a few parts of the survey that were obviously biased and I commented on all of them. I guess they probably just threw it in the garbage.

Hey, can anyone explain to me the difference between feminism and MGTOW? Just curious, thanks :)
[–]TheMarvelousSchmuck17 points18 points19 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I suspect that's a condescending jab at us, but since it's hard to discern that kind of thing through text, I'll answer the question anyway.
I'll hit the cliffnotes.
1.) We don't force our views on anyone. When was the last time you saw a MGTOW guy standing somewhere angrily protesting something meager and insignificant? When was the last time we petitioned some organization or company to completely change something because it doesn't 100% suit our sensibilities?
Basically, we've got our opinions, and like a reasonable person we keep them to ourselves when it's clear nobody is interested in listening. The worst you'll ever see from a MGTOW guy is the very occasional controversial post on another forum or subreddit, and even then it's other people who get pissed and psychotic, not the guy who made the post.
2.) We can be satisfied, and often are. Feminists always want more, more, more. No matter how much you alter things to be in their favor, they'll never stop finding new things to be offended about.
MGTOW guys just don't want legal trouble sent their way and don't want some narcissistic "partner" draining their sanity and resources. That's it. That's why you don't see MGTOW marches or MGTOW protests, because we don't want society to bend over backwards to satisfy us, we just want society to keep its nose out of our business.
3.) The previous two points are reinforced by the number disparity between feminists and MGTOW. The 80,000 guys sharing their opinions here are a measly fraction of the number of MGTOW guys that actually exist. But how many MGTOW posts do you see out in the social media wild? How often do you come across posts about us that were actually written by us? No, the overwhelming majority of MGTOW guys are out there silently going about their business.
Meanwhile, you'd be hard-pressed to find people who call themselves feminists but aren't on some manner of crusade.
So you can say that we're two sides of the same coin (which we aren't), but really, the differences are clear. One side is just asking not to be molested in court over complete bullshit, the other side are the ones angrily screaming about how we need to continue the molestation and increase the bullshit.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Feminists are supremacists.
[–]fasterfind1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Feminism is a bit of a hate movement based on false information, it's quite aggressive. MGTOW is men sharing real information about how they got fucked over by women. The former being a movement to stay single. It's quite reactive, not aggressive. Feminism is a sexist power grab and some of it is focused on getting biased laws passed that are unfair and sexist. MGTOW isn't very interested in law other than making it fair where men and women are actually equal. There's a lot to be said, but this is how I'd define it in the constraints of one paragraph.
