If you're short or low on funds, I can understand the need to be frugal. Personally, though, I don't want to be the richest man in the graveyard or leave most of my money to my children or the state (or even fill the pockets of doctors toward the end of life). I busted my ass to make that money, I'm going to spend most of it on me while I still can.

this is how i go about it.

i wrote this quickly, so it's jumbled, though you get the idea.

figure out how much you cost to exist per day by creating a list and adding up everything you pay out for one month, then x12 for the year. add anything you payout, which isn't part of the monthly, to the yearly, then divide by 365.

keep track of anything you payout daily, which is not part of the list and track this, given it will fluctuate.

for example, you cost 40 per day, drive this down to 37, then 35 and so on.

so the dailies would look something like this, $48, $40, $45, $61. question anything above $40, asking, did i need to spend that and as you become more frugal, expect the $40 to become lower.

now look look over the list for alternates in what you pay out, cheaper gas, insurance, less expensive groceries, less driving, buying certain things in bulk, etc..

once you get the hang of it, you've derived a budget and the trick is to look for cost effective methods and stick to it.

you'll find out quick where the money is going, especially if it's wasted, impulse buying, that sort of thing.

EDIT: also, once you've driven the $40, say to $37, readjust your yearly expenses, so $37 becomes the new daily, rinse, wash, repeat..

Not a lot different from living frugal regularly. Minimise your wardrobe (when you can buy things just shirts and socks in bulk), avoid buying any expensive tech you do not need. Same thing with food. Also avoid subscription services and for entertainment think outside the box. Ask yourself: 'Is there somewhere I can get this cheaper/free?'.

learn how to do your own shit; cooking, carpentry, sewing, mechanical, appliance repair, siding, roofing all that shit. youll save tons of money if you do it yourself

also I make a list of things I need to buy before I run out of them. if I am not forced to buy things last minute out of necessity I can wait for the best deal

Simply being MGTOW will save you a lot of money. I remember the days when I was dating women. Money would fly from my wallet like water from a waterfall. All the dinners you pay for, the flowers and chocolate, the movie tickets, vacations, and so forth. Then if you're really unlucky and the relationship goes well, you pay for the $20k engagement ring, the $60k wedding, and then you've got to buy a house for her, which means $20k per year in mortgage interest alone, and then when you have kids that's $30k per year for each child. And when she divorces you, then financially you're fucked.

As a MGTOW man, I don't bother with being frugal. I buy my almond lattes, wear nice clothes, and eat fresh organic food. At the end of the month, I still have massive amounts of cash leftover thanks to the fact that I don't hand over any money to a woman. All the money made is for myself. I don't buy women any gifts, I have no children to feed, and I don't have any debt.

MGTOW is freedom. If you don't go MGTOW, you become a slave.

Buy/take used clothes. Many people dispose of perfectly good clothes and they might actually pay you for taking it away. Don't feel bad about it.

Don't buy anything overpriced (seems like a no brainer). Always check the most generic/cheap product and evaluate if the more expensive options are really worth it. Most of the time you will notice the only reason a product is more expensive is because they spend on packaging, advertising and image.

Ride bike. Not only saves you transportation money, also saves you the trouble of going and paying for cardio on a gym. It's win/win/win for yourbody/yourwallet/society.

Learn to fix/repair stuff. You'd be amazed at the amount of people throwing away things with trivial failures. But not only that, learning to fix stuff is actually free (you only need time and internet) and the tools are usually cheaper than paying for someone to do the job once. I've received and fixed various broken items from acquaintances, which I've sold later for 100% profit.

If you live in a city with Aldis, shop there. It's man friendly too. Only 1 brand per. It saves time for me. And of course, it's low cost (in case you haven't heard of that store).

Dump cable tv. There is more content that you could consume in 10 lifetimes on the internet. I literally saved about $1000 per year. Spending $40 to buy a digital antenna gets me 25 over-the-air channels (for when the internet goes down)
Run your car into the ground. I drive a '94. You save money on property taxes and insurance (I pay for liability only). Keep it around until the cost of keeping it running exceeds what buying a car would cost. Eventually you will come to a tipping point where the math flips on you.
Live simply. Avoid costly hobbies (including women). Figure out where the money is going.

DIY everyday things. Learn to sew to repair clothes. Learn to get out stains. Learn to cook and clean and maintain all of your equipment, including vehicles and your home.

Don't buy new consumer goods. I'm a software engineer and I only program on 5+ year old machines and use a blackberry clone as a phone with a cheap, a la carte provider. These choices reduce distractions in addition to cost. Can't play computer games, don't use apps = more time being present and productive for myself if I so choose.

Learn to eat cheaply. Do not buy coffee on the go, make it yourself in the AM. Eat cheaper, but healthy, whole food: brown rice, dried beans (learn to cook these!), seasonal vegetables and fruit. Drink water.

Make changes one or a few at a time to get used to them.

I use magnets and the big bulk filter material for my furnace, just cut out the vent size filter and attach with magnets to the screen if that makes sense... it's cheaper than buying those big expensive cartidge ones and you can replace them more often, saves on the electric bill.

I do a lot of maintenance on stuff I own myself. I'm in the welding/fabrication biz so I can build stuff instead of buying it..

Ebay, craigslist - just be creative. Being creative and resourceful is a lot more satisfying than throwing money at something that usually won't be all that custom tailored to your need anyway. Make friends with resourceful people and talk to them about money saving tips - I do this a lot and have learned a ton doing this. Favors for favors. Stretch things you have, repair instead of replace. Don't go into debt, or if you do be on top of it.

Also, while I identify with thrift and industry a lot myself - better than learning how to spend less is figuring out how to earn more. Y'know, race to the bottom and all that..
