Is that the GUY gets to "pick" the girl instead of the other way around -- and then she's either forced to accept him, or else be entirely bereft.

It seems like everyone fundamentally failes to understand what this movie set out to do. The whole point was to bring into question ones morality when faced with extreme isolation. Morality evolved as a mechanism to facilitate interaction. Without other sapient things around to interact with, there can be no morality in the first place. So we have a person, first and foremost, not just a man, who is faced with living alone for a year and three days. Then, the quandary arises over whats best. Let yourself die alone, or doom someone else to exist with you, but live in relative happiness? The whole point was to show the conflict and what the consequences were of that decision.

It absolutely isn't pro male. It isn't pro female either

Look Passengers is a stupid movie where they take a romance and try to jazz it up with sci-fi.

As a mgtow if I was hired to maintain a interstellar cruiseship until death, alone in empty space, with nothing but the cruiseship and all its amenities to me... I'll take it! but with one exception: the crew and passengers upon awking up need to clean the utter mess I will leave for them, I swear to god give my 90 years I will write on ever surface "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" in catchup and mustard.

I don't get why they are so upset about it. It plays out exactly the way that a chick flick does. Dude gets girl to fall in love with him under false pretense, but eventually the pretense is exposed. Some stuff happens that proves the man is remorseful, she forgives him, and then they get back together and live happily ever after.

Comments are interesting. Some women say they liked it. I think only because the guy doing the betrayal had prime dick. What difference could the quality of the dick possibly make? You're still doomed to 90 years banging around in an empty spaceship. Who cares whether the only other person on board for company, who betrayed you, has a good dick or not? Women don't care about dick that much without other women to compete with and display social status to.

Imagine if he were simply an obsolete, past Hollywood hunk like Brendan Frasier instead of Chris Pratt? Totally different movie. Actually I would watch the shit out of that.
