This won't end well for Google. They currently are not liable for the content on their platforms, but if they manipulate the results as this, then they are exercising editorial discretion, and one with a very clear political bias towards equity/intersectionalism (which is fringe left). At that point they are no longer a platform and are liable for all the content on their systems. And given what all is posted to YT, that... won't end well at all for them. They have shot themselves in the foot with an RPG. How that will end up in court? Look at Oberlin College vs Gibsons Bakery to see how justice is dispensed on belligerent moralizing juggernauts.

Gonna repost this again, because I think it's important for people to realize that this ISN'T just about "search results/search engines" etc....this is just the start of what they will pull.

This is not only not surprising, but it is the LEAST of what people need to be concerned about.

Yes I know it sounds "paranoid"... but seriously, if & when you realize the extent of sort of "invasive control" people have -- and are increasingly -- willingly giving entities like Google; and what they COULD potentially do with that to "fuck with"* anyone who votes (or espouses) for things that do not follow "the narrative."

Android phones (and all of the aspects that both the tracking AND monitoring of that provides); not to mention the Nest thermostats, the other Google "Home" products the various cloud services...

Anything you become RELIANT upon -- such that it becomes an expected, almost necessary part of your daily life -- can (and eventually WILL) be used to "control" you in one manner or another: carrot AND/OR stick.

* Think even just of things like the "throttling" of internet (or Apple's "slowing" of older iPhones) ... random loss or even just delays of your messages, emails, documents, the "voice assistant" intentionally "mis-comprehending" your requests or instructions... and of course -- sooner or later -- manipulating your "payments & transactions."

All of which can (and doubtless WILL) easily be blamed on some "glitch" in the system (possibly even "hackers") ... but somehow ONLY occurring to those who are NOT fully "on board" with Google's own *ahem* "values"... and NOT to anyone else.

And, it need NOT be done "openly" -- as China's so called "social credit" system is -- instead it CAN be done surreptitiously and (as is most likely) gradually & incrementally... probably initially at just a minor inconvenience/annoyance level(almost unnoticeable, not entirely discernible); but then at increasingly more frequent and more & more frustrating levels (possibly even up to "rage-inducing" if not actually life-debilitating {your phone calls & messages just DON'T go through at all, your bank account becomes entirely NOT accessible, etc).

Also note: this is NOT a "new" paranoid notion... Isaac Asimov wrote about almost this exact kind of scenario (albeit he imagined/portrayed it as absent any "human-political" management) in his 1950 short story (generally included as the last chapter of the "I, Robot" fixup/anthology book) entitled "The Evitable Conflict"; to wit:

Following on from the previous story 'Evidence,' in the year 2052, Stephen Byerley has been elected World Co-ordinator for a second term. Earth is divided into four geographical regions, each with a powerful supercomputer known as a Machine managing its economy. Byerley is concerned as the Machines have recently made some errors leading to economic inefficiency. Consulting with the four regional Vice Co-ordinators, he finds that several prominent individuals and companies associated with the anti-Machine "Society for Humanity" have been damaged by the Machines' apparent mistakes.

Byerley believes that the Society is attempting to undermine the Machines by disobeying their instructions, with the goal of retaking power as humans, and proposes to have the movement suppressed. Susan Calvin tells him that this will not work, contending that the errors are in fact deliberate acts by the Machines. The Machines recognize their own necessity to humanity's continued peace and prosperity, and have thus inflicted a small amount of harm on selected individuals in order to protect themselves and continue guiding humanity's future. In effect, the Machines have decided that the only way to follow the First Law is to take control of humanity, which is one of the events that the three Laws are supposed to prevent.

This is much the same, except of course that there is NO SUCH THING as an actual "machine intelligence" -- and of course also NO "limiting" factors like Asimov's imaginary "Laws of Robotics" that would prevent MAJOR harm (or killing of humans).

Instead this is simply machine enhanced "social engineering" planned/controlled by very FLAWED human beings (many of them arguably -- objectively -- "mentally ill" or even "insane"... even by their OWN definitions {on various "meds" having been diagnosed with various "conditions/syndromes" etc})... people who are even arguably almost entirely MISANTHROPIC (literally HATING certain other humans, or even humanity in total and in general), and have ZERO compunctions about causing mass harm or mass death.

That's a good point. I wont pretend to know more than God about what should be done about humanity but from my viewpoint it feels like, is it really worth sparing the minority when the majority are bad?
