I think two major things are at play here: psychology and upbringing.

In short, and this is my personal opinion, it stems from the sense of ownership. If someone pays or invests in something they have more of an attachment to it.

It's get a free iPhone 11 but if you paid for your iPhone 11 you'd love it more and it would mean more to you. I think some of these guys take it a bit too far and find satisfaction in giving away money without getting much in return (Findom).

I think the second component is being hopeful and delusional. This is the upbringing part. Perhaps they have low self worth or an extreme disconnect from how the world actually works. Many guys have low self-worth. They're insecure, hate themselves, and don't believe they have anything to offer. Guys like these HAVE to resort to other means to even a slightest chance.

They typically need a skill/talent of some sort or 💲💲💲
