You don't want to be in China, they are becoming a feminist hellhole. Due to the 1 child policy, most people had 1 boy to continue the family name. Girls to marry are in short supply now and Chinese men are paying the equivalent of thousands of dollars to even sniff a vagina. It's a sad state of affairs.

The romantic view of the natural world as a blissful Eden is only held by people who have no actual experience of nature. People who live in nature are not romantic about it at all. If they don't, they will die.

The truth is, almost nobody wants to experience real nature. What people want is to spend a week or two in a cabin in the woods, with screens on the windows. They want a simplified life for a while, without all their stuff. Or a nice river rafting trip for a few days, with somebody else doing the cooking. Nobody wants to go back to nature in any real way, and nobody does. It's all talk — and as the years go on, and the world population grows increasingly urban, it's uninformed talk. Farmers know what they're talking about. City people don't. It's all fantasy.

The notion that the natural world obeys its own rules and doesn't give a damn about your expectations comes as a massive shock... it will demand that you adapt to it — and if you don't, you die. It is a harsh, powerful, and unforgiving world, that most urban westerners have never experienced.

He's just kidding himself if he thinks he's going to find "zen" -- much less "safety" & peace -- by running off to some remote (?) Chinese/Asian forest (??) to grow rice (???).

I mean that combination is so ridiculously off-base, one doesn't know where to start.

Just find a cheap piece of land and grow some potatoes, carrots, and chickens for eggs, that should meet all your nutritional needs, you can even look it up on cronometer. Also get into meditation, as you can attain high pleasurable states called the jhanas through it, if you're interested check out my sub /r/jhanas

You dont have to go to china man, just stay in your county and head into countryside, when you have established a base there you can start cultivating the land and growing stuff depending on the climate. Zen can be practised where ever you are.

i've thought about joining a Buddhist Monastary, no earnings or owning anything, one meal a day, extremely simple life

a few years ago I went to Vancouver, stayed on farm, morning/afternoon picked fruits from orchard and didn't eat that much, weirdly was one of the most clear in my head/thought i've remembered being and was surprisingly happy with very little and I didn't bring my laptop with me so occupied non work time reading or walking around farm

The best thing to do in my opinion is to find a house somewhere that is close to a society, but not to close so that you do have to interact with other people.

The reason why you want it to be close is so that you can go there in case you need food or a doctor.

It's not some happy happy funtime that will be relaxing all day every day, it would require countless hours of work to even find a place like that, and then to maintain a garden would take even more hours of constant research and experimentation, do you really think you'll have time for work like that when you have an LTR who is probably cheating on you? Oh boo hoo, that woman your with will probably call you some names for breaking up with her, fucking be free. What the fuck are you waiting for? Do it! If you want to be "zen" for a while then climb a tree or something, but get your fuckin life in order before you start considering moving to a different country.
