That movie is fucking hilarious. Protected by RT, they deleted over 50 thousand negatives to get a score over 50% and pretend it's a success.

Geobbels would be proud of today’s leftists
[–]VladdyTheDaddyPutin-4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Are massive corporations leftists tho? Maybe the fans of the garbage they put out are, but there’s no way in hell the Big Boss is voting for democratic backed tax increases especially with the profit losses from this failure of a film. Gotta push that narrative that the left is the problem when you mask right-wing policy such as censorship with extremist liberal ideas like radical feminism.
[–]Regencyflw24 points25 points26 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You’re right. Google, Facebook, the New York Times, Washington Post, and Hollywood are definitely all right-wing. And their fact-checking campaigns are definitely not used as selective censorship. My bad man you have the whole world figured out. You go girl
[–]VladdyTheDaddyPutin-4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Frame feminists as crazies and you drive people from the cause. I’m not a girl, or a feminist in the slightest bc of how these corporations have corrupted progressive ideology into their extremes. They’re pushing liberal ideas to their extremes to drive moderates in the other direction. Its reverse psychology on a massive multimedia level. Also google is beginning censorship programs, facebook is collecting your personal data for profit. Tell me again how these aren’t regressive policies hidden behind a façade of liberty?
Women love to espouse being independent and strong but they’re only being used for their worth. Their sex/gender. Feminism has been poisoned to conceptualize liberty with products that pander to their desire to be something more than a woman. When the phrase women are the future is uttered, they mean women are the future of profits.
As this failure of a movie has shown, women are not the future of profits or much of anything for that matter. The final end goal is to turn men into soy-boys who fawn over a females glance in their direction. When low and medium economic class men are spineless, that which has the ability to challenge those in power become neutered.

"corporations" LMAO do you really believe that "corporations" are really "private", "disconnected from government"? Do you really think the "government tax" is really a problem for that "corporation"? Do you really believe that the self-claimed "private corporations" are really "private corporations"? What a joke. If you really believe that "democrats", and "massive corporation" are "enemy", and the reason you believe so is the self-claimed "corporate tax" for massive "corporation", you are in cognitive dissonance at best.
[–]VladdyTheDaddyPutin-2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That’s a lot of quotations bro, do you even understand what you’re saying? Private means not publicly owned. You need to buy ownership. Private means you need to own a large enough share to make decisions on behalf of the corporation. Private corporations are the most disconnected from government you can get, that’s why people don’t want socialism because it binds corporations to the government more. Government tax is not a problem for corporations when corps are not taxed equally as citizens, meaning they are even further distanced from government influence. I can’t even argue with the second half of that jumble of air-quotes because you stop making sense, but I will try.
Democrats are not the enemy, the classical definition of liberals are (moderate centrists: republicans and democrats). Liberals seek the increased political correctness of society without increasing people’s liberties. Republicans seek the return to traditional values without depriving people of liberties. Leftists seek the increase of liberties, fascists (true right wing ideologues) seek the deprivation of people’s liberties. The reason classical liberals (Democrats and republicans) are the “enemy” is because they seek social shift without increasing people’s liberties. Truthfully classical liberals are harmless, traditional values and political correctness aren’t totally bad especially because neither group seeks to deprive anyone of their liberties. Fascists and right wing ideologues are the enemy because they seek to deprive people of their liberties. In all honesty, I would consider myself a Republican Leftist, someone who wants society to increase the liberation of people, while maintaining traditional values.
Massive corporations are the enemy because they pay a disproportionately smaller amount of taxes. If taxes were based on ratios of earnings, massive corporations wouldn’t be a problem, in fact they would likely not exist because they cannot cheat tax brackets and offshore shell companies into contributing less.
Don’t throw terms around that you can’t explain and can’t back up, like cognitive dissonance. You seem to be experience quite a bit of it because half of what you said contradicts itself.

It ranked 7th out of the 21 marvel movies for opening weekend profits so the empty theater part must not have been as bad as that video made it seem.

It's pretty obvious they're fudging the numbers now. Empty theaters all over the weekend, over 50k ratings removed from RT, artificially inflated score went "suddenly" from 32% to 54%. Youtube filters bad reviews.
But they pretend it's done its budget already, they're faking it.
[–]Euphemism-3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
is there a source for the empty theatres? The numbers seemed strong. I thought this movie was going to tank, and with the censorship was almost sure of it - then I saw the reported numbers.

Magneto - I had to live through the holocaust and a concentration camp. When I finally found some peace, my little daughter got killed in front of my eyes by an angry mob.
Daredevil - I got bullied over the course of my whole childhood. They I lost my eyesight while saving someones life, for which I then got bullied even more.
Spawn - Well, what can I say, I was brainwashed into killing civilians, then I got betrayed and killed by my best friend. I ended up in hell and when I made a deal, just to see my beloved wife again, I came back as a disfigured freak, a slave of hell, that is living in constant emotional pain and also constantly followed by a fucking clown-demon.
(I know, I know, Spawn is more of an anti-hero. But he is my most favourite comic character ever, I love him dearly and he is trying to do the right thing after all.)
[–]parabola19848 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Spawn definitely a badass
[–]Yiyas3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Black Panther - lives a life of luxury and prosperity but dad dies and his only failure is not preparing me to be a king. Motivations: protect Wakanda.
Dr Strange - lives a life of luxury and prosperity but disables himself and becomes a superhero to deal with it. Motivations: protect humans.
Iron Man - lives a life of luxury and prosperity but gets kidnapped and realises arms dealers are criminals and becomes a superhero to deal with it. Motivations: protect innocents.
Thor - lives a life of luxury and prosperity but takes it for granted and has to learn humility. Motivations: protect Asgard.
Captain Marvel is a typical trope where someone lives a daily life but their 'gut' tells them something should change. Every day their <defining characteristic> is the part that they get judged the most for. Yada, yada, later on their 'weakness' becomes their strength. Her "motivations" are that as a child she sucked absolute ass at almost everything but never gave up even if people told her she was being reckless. The movie is her forgetting her past and being told to control her emotions, instead of being tenacious like she grew up being. Relatable stuff for males or females. Motivations: be free and promote freedom (aka save Skrulls).
... so I don't think you should look to Marvel for a good tragic backstory. All these characters have a little downer yet, as in every Marvel movie, never end up worse off or have to change their life greatly. Avengers in general always feels like a defensive battle against evil as well, compared to Batman who chases it, so motivation wise it's always like they're the only ones who can fight evil so they have to fight evil.
There are parts where Captain Marvel distracts from the morale being "a child who never gave up" and turns it into "a woman who breaks expectations" which is garbage. Is marginalising a boy from being inspired by Captain Marvel really necessary?... but it's just the same as Black Panther when it's like "we shouldn't fight amongst ourselves or be selfish" becomes "we only help wakandans"... honestly is buying up real-estate in America the best way to say "I help 'wakandans'"? Uninspiring.
But if you ignore all that... the film as a whole was a bit of fun with young Fury. Nowhere near as good as Ragnarok yet it had more depth with the motivations of the Skrulls/Mar-Vell vs Kree/Ronin compared to 'Hela is bad'. If more effort was spent on developing Mar-Vell, Ronin, Fury and the Skrulls it would have been a far better movie but this is also just an origin story to throw Captain Marvel into Endgame.

Iron Man builds a suit from miscellaneous parts in a cave in Afghanistan.

Captain America was a weakling and risked it all being experimented on. Got frozen for decades for fucks sake.
Captain Marvel... just blessed with powers through an explosion.
Fuck Mary Sues like her and Rey in Star Wars.
[–]Lucifeces16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
I sort of agree. But I feel like Marvel has just done this with a lot of their characters lately.
Black panther is literally royalty who ate a fancy plant and comes from an advanced civilization.
Ant man is just a dude with a good heart who is given the suit and powers.
Outside the main titles cast you have people like vision and Scarlett witch who are just god like powerful because mind stone.
[–]MillennialDan5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She had no memory of her earth life, steals a motorcycle and can ride it no problem. I've never ridden a motorcycle and can tell you im gonna crash that shit without training. She also flys the Avengers jet no problem because all aircraft/spacecraft are the same I guess. Her only struggle was her memory. This ruins future amniesa plot lines for Wolverine. [–]Morphs_1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
From a psychological standpoint this is actually possible. The brain stores different types of memory located in different brain areas.
It is possible that the episodic brain, responsible for storing memories of past events, gets damaged while other areas (such as the motor part and semantic part) remain intact.
Still I will not watch this film though ;)

[–]blaizken_4208 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She's already in Endgame, where she will likely undo 11 years and 22 films of development so she can destroy Thanos with girl power.
She's also planned to "become the new face of the MCU", meaning Iron Man is getting kicked aside for this emotionless feminut mary sue to lead a new phase of SJW movies.
[–]kemchik0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So is Spiderman, Sandman, Venom, Molecule man(one of the strongest Marvel character). Most of strong mutant is from random nuclear/space/animal explosion/bite/infection if you read the comic.
If you think Captain Marvel is Mary Sue you should read Beyonder Arc on how he's reborn as human with almost omnipotent power which is Gary Stu ing to the max.
[–]8lackJack8lack0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
There’s more to it than that.
This whole series of movies has been building the characters.
Each character developed, grown as the story develops.
Captain Marvel rocks up, gets one movie where she starts kicking ass straight away and then she is supposed to save the day.
Again, you should read the comic. That's how most of the character solve the problem in the comic:
Dr. Doom/Thanos/Galactus got too strong and can destroy all verse?? Living tribunal/Random force(phoenix, enigma, dark matter etc)/Beyonder kick their ass randomly when all hope is lost.
Spiderman almost lose against intergalactic enemies?? Enigmatic force come from space and make spiderman into cosmic spiderman randomly IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIGHT.
That's how Marvel always roll in case the writer make the enemy become too strong

Is that actually her motivations!?
[–]Lucifeces27 points28 points29 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No...the montage shows that she’s always been told she couldn’t do it and pushed through. I feel like that was just meant to show her drive.
Her real motivation in the least spoiler way possible is that she was stolen from her planet, had her brain wiped and life removed and then was used as a weapon in a war she was never on board with.
[–]onishchukd55 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yup thanks, that is a way better description.
[–]onishchukd511 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
No it’s not. In the movie there is a montage of her doing stereotypically male things like playing baseball and racing go-carts. The significance of that is that she has always been doing the same things that boys have been doing. Her motivation is to save the day (like men typically do).
[–]T000000921 points22 points23 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Her "motivation" is to betray her unit, side with the enemy, and virtue signal how great she is for doing so.

In order for women to feel successful, they have to act like men.
This isn't exactly a new thing though. There have always been "tom boys". PysEd classes everywhere in the western world are for girls too. But somewhere along the line feminists started pretending as if there's been this patriarchy thing holding alll women down and girls have never been allowed to play sports, or take science classes, or have jobs etc. Like holy shit, no woman currently under the age of 60 has been oppressed in any of the ways feminists complain about.

How hard can it be to wait for reviews to know you are not wasting your time and money? Vote with you wallet and don't support the people who fight you.

Grew up playing baseball. There were about 3-4 really talented females that played in my league at any given time when I was super young. By the time High School rolls around they all quit. Nobody told them to... They get eclipsed by the time boys start to develop physically.

I think this movie was a hit. The numbers are being reported as good.
I didn't and don't plan on seeing it. I guess the backlash wasn't big enough to slow it down. It didn't flop like a lot of YouTube bloggers thought.
I was looking forward to the good news that it bombed.
Edit: Maybe it will start dropping fast in week two.
Also, I didn't find the cost to make and promote the film in the same sites that reported the gross income. Meaning the film can still bomb financially.
I guess you can tell that I really wanted this movie to bomb. Ha ha...

The IMDB metascore is 65%, so that says the critics, even during their MASSIVE industrial / political bias could still only get up to 65%.
That's enough for me.
doesnt matter. end of the day the film would of made more money without a white make hating bitch lead
[–]Jack-Vance1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
True. I should be more positive and I would have realized what you two are saying without being told.
My bad.
[–]JohnPerera5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I even didn't watch this shit from pirated movie site.

A great write up about why when women write female superheroes, they are inevitably flawless Mary Sues...
https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1104509379154391040.html
Really good explanation. Women don't understand rising in hierarchies and what they see is a winner from the start,no effort needed. So that's what they can write, Mary Sues.
[–]Cissnowflake0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Women do not perceive men’s struggles. Only the result of overcoming those struggles.
So they assume men’s success is just handed to them.
And demand the same.
(And are getting it)

Come on be fair. She was also told she couldn't drive.
[–]PerfectNemesis1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Honestly its a good movie minus shoving "you can't do this because you are a girl" narrative every 5 minutes in your face.

Gee, it's almost as if you need more then political statements to create a good story. /s

I'd watch it if her ass was half as big as her forehead. And if she hated men a little less.

[–]Mintoxicatedlyace1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Unfortunately, a lot of idiots went to see it over the weekend so now it’s made $155 mil and deemed a success. That means we can look forward to more if this stupid, arrogant, racist and sexist bitch in movies and more woke films from the MCU.
[–]ramfex211 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I am going to watch this for lols... but there is no way I’m paying for this shit.
[–]AintWhiskyDick0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’ll watch this movie on Netflix or whatever.
[–]low_burning0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Does this mean that Captain marvel is easy to trigger ?
I'm not into hero stuff. But hasn't Marvel always been progressist? I've seen people saying that they are on internet.
[–]ShervinA0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What about ant-man going from a thief to a superhero? With not much of hard work?
The movie was surprisingly good, there was a few cheesy lines but it was good to see not forcing a romantic relationship with a guy. Also compared to Wonder Woman this movie was way better.
[–]m4ttmo0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Although the film had bad moments. It was better than black panther and that's Oscar nominated
[–]Abusing-Green0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Point is correct. But don't use batman and superman as an argument.
A.) because arguably the D.C. movies suck more.
B. D.C. Characters are overall darker in terms of back story and story arcs so it's not a fair comparison. I'd use Captain America who lied to enlist in the army to fight for what he believed in.
Iron man..... whose parents were killed.... but saw the tragedy of his war profiteering and decided to atone for his mistakes
Black widow who is a special agent of an agency dedicated to helping people to atone for her "red in her ledger" she had as a soviet spy
[–]Onceafucker0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Thats not even her backstory in the movie 🤦🏾♂️
[–]MachuPichu720 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ah damn yeah I forgot that was the whole origin of her character. Nothing else happened in the entire movie. Thanks for helping me remember.

The best part is it earned around $455 million worldwide. I love this movie. If you haven't seen it, you should.

$153 million opening weekend tells me a lot of people agree with this.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
There's a difference between the gross income, and profit.
[–]Jack-Vance3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Let's hope so. Your comments made me remember that I didn't see any numbers regarding the cost to make and promote the film on the sites reporting the weekend take.
A few sites had the column for the data but nothing reported. Fishy or is it due to on going advertising?
Likely both. It's probable that "ongoing costs" such as advertisement and some "administrative expenses" i.e bribes are being used to give them a bigger amount of time to earn money to try to inflate their profit margin.
It's a solid tactic, actually. Keep the numbers changing so that no one can pin a proper final result, making it easier to exacerbate a success, and to hide a failure. I'd like to see honest declarations of all expenses incurred in the process of crafting the movie itself being compared to the money amassed in like the first two weeks after release in a clean and easy to interpret chart. Would put things into perspective, and make it easier to know whether CM was a win for Disney, or a flop, as most expect it to be.
Of course, corporate being corporate they'll never engage in any level of transparent conversation sigh their clients, so...
Is this that famous Hollywood Accounting I've heard about?
[–]ShylockSimmonz4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
That opening is good enough for 7th best of Marvel movies. Pretty weak if you ask me.

[–]AxeMill0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The person I quoted was only looking at domestic so I responded in kind. Will be interesting to see the drop off after first week.

All that tells me is that NPC's can be easily parted from their money. By your logic, Fyre fest was a smash success.
