So, apparently Army is revamping their PT tests to qualify to be a solider. In the new test, it will be exercises that correlate to things youd have to do as a soldier in combat. For example, able to drag another soldier if they're wounded or dead.

Let's see how many women are actually gonna pass this new test! Probably very few to none.

For those wondering what this means I'll break it down.

Old Test: 3 events - push ups, sit ups, run

There were different requirements for males and females. Females had to do less push ups, about the same number of sit ups, and got longer time to pass their run.

Females got to pass easier because (insert mental gymnastics) fairness. A big factor in my opinion is maxing out the test is easier for females. And once you hit Sgt. PT points give you promotion points, which means females who can do push ups and run can promote faster than males who have to same number of push ups, sit ups, or run time.

Another big factor is the scores were curved for age. As you got older passing and maxing the test became easier. (I am sure this helps Sgt majors and colonels finish out their 20 years for retirement.)

New Test: 6 events with equipment required

Push ups and the 2 mile run are still there, but the standards are easier because you'll be tired out by the other new events. I could go into detail, but I'll skip to the grading.

No different standard for females, no curve for age. There are three grading standards: Light, Moderate, Heavy and these depend on your Army job.

Combat Arms and other intense jobs are classified as Heavy, other army jobs are Moderate, or Light and have easier to pass and max standards.

TLDR: On the new test females and older soldiers are graded the same as young males

This statement is not completely accurate. While, yes, it is technically the same test- just as it was last time- it is still graded differently on a case by case basis. The more combat heavy the unit is, the higher the score must be. This is also paired with the soldier's individual job in the army as well. So, the more combat relevant the soldier is, the higher their score must be. So, for the HR folks, they don't have to score as high as the average infantryman in an infantry company.

This test is also complete and total garbage. It was some halfway out the door officer's signing off on some crossfit bullshit to get a good evaluation. That's just my opinion though, so take it with a grain of salt if you want.

There's two Army's though; the 10% of the Army that makes splatter art in hallways and doorways, and concentrates on what everybody thinks a military is; then there's the other 90% who supports those 10%.

To be honest, the 10% isn't going to reduce their combat effectiveness and a PT test is usually the easiest day of PT a guy has, it's pretty relaxing as it's mostly standing around, then a couple events when it's your turn.

The US Army has been revamping or testing new PT tests since about 2001, and honestly some of the changes are good, more crossfit than static pushup/situp/pullup/run stuff, and when done correctly is a pretty decent workout. That still is only one aspect of fitness, as many soldiers, especially your pointy end of the spear guys, spend plenty of time in the gym, running, and keeping their fitness levels high because it's necessary.

So endstate is, just because REMFs are seemingly doing easier PT or whatever, your door-kickers, snake eaters, and modern-art makers are not going to get weaker because there's a different way of grading fitness.
