How does a group diametrically opposed to nazi groups make it any worse than them?

I ask this because I'm genuinely intrigued by the hate antifa gets. Now I used to study politics at school, but have since as the years gone past, become totally politically neutral and uncaring about how the world decides to tear itself to shreds. It seems like any group one opposes is branded as a terrorist organization.

You need to understand current politics and the Overton Window. The current political climate gives an Overton Window between Stalinism and Fascism.

Stalinism----Fascism

It does not take into account other political belief systems. This is how the media and the talking heads can reasonably portray Fascism as being on the Right when in reality it is on the left side of the political spectrum.

The real Overton Window should look like this:

Stalinism----Fascism----True Centrist-----Moderate Right----Constitutionalist----Anarchy

By taking into account all of the political belief systems we can easily see that Stalinism and Fascism are both on the left. The right side of the political spectrum is all about freedom from the government which is why anarchy is the furtherest right you can get.

This is done from a US viewpoint, so the Constitutional group can be substituted for any group in a given country that believes in limited government.

That doesn't line up with your spectrum though, communism and socialism are listed on the left because of their social and economic equality goals and the same with conservatism on the right.

Fascism for example is anti-left and defined as far right for its strict emphasis on traditional social hierarchies. Nor is it opposite capitalism since its fiercely anti-marxist capitalist ideology.

The existance of anarchocommunism for example, an obvious far left ideology that is also anarchistic, which is far right wing according to you, highlights the absurdity of this spectrum as a left right spectrum instead of a authoritarian-libertarian spectrum.

In its original context right wing referred to those ultra loyal to the monarchy, hardly anarchistic when they wanted strict maintenance of the current social hierarchy.

Fascism uses the state and nothing exists without the state. Companies, liberty, etc... are all given by the state which is identical to communism. This is why it is on the left side of the spectrum.

Now looking at your link this is what it says further down.

That there is authoritarian which is the left side of the political spectrum. For comparison, Constitutionalism, all power is derived from the people and the government exists upon their will only. That is a solid right wing belief system and the current Overton Window ignores it. Want proof of that? The US federal government has for over two decades labeled any Constitutionalist as a terrorist and a domestic threat. This is why the Overton Window goes from Stalinism to Fascism and no further to the right.

EDIT: Communism is to follow a strict path of Socialism to Communism. Socialism is where there is a government that controls everything but once "equality of property and production" is achieved the state is to disband and it shifts to communism which nothing more than anarchy as there is no state. The problem is that no government is willing to give up its power and shift into anarchy. Thus, anarchocommunists are the end result of communism not Stalinism.

Stalinism is a flavor of Socialism and always has been. There really isn't that much difference between it and Fascism since both have the same goals. Those goals are a single dictator controlling everything and have the ultimate power.

Fascism sticks with being socialist as the government is there and will always exist.

No, nationalism is an ideology associated with the right wing, in a source that calls it far right. Again extreme governmental control is authoritarian, not inherently left wing no matter how much you assert otherwise.

America is a democracy and no mainstream group wants to change this. The idea that the Overton window of acceptable ideas is between two extreme authoritarian ideologies that both reject democracy is ridiculous.

The libertarian party in america is the closest thing to constitutionalism and is the third largest, hardly considered terrorists.

Nationalism is neither left or right wing. The Soviet Union was very nationalist as is the United States. Yet, one sits on the extreme left of the spectrum and the other at the near extreme right side. Ergo, it is not part of the spectrum, but rather it is an element the further defines the country.

America is not a democracy. It is a Constitutional republic and the word "democracy" does not appear anywhere in the text of the Constitution of the United States, Bill of Rights, or the Organic Act of 1789. The Constitution guarantees that every state in the Union should have a republican form of government under Article 4 Section 4 Clause 1.

It is not since Joseph P. Overton is the one that formalized it in his lifetime. He lived from 1960-2003.

Overton described a spectrum from "more free" to "less free" with regard to government intervention, oriented vertically on an axis, to avoid comparison with the left-right political spectrum.[6] As the spectrum moves or expands, an idea at a given location may become more or less politically acceptable. Actually, the Libertarian Party is not close to the Constitution. The only party that is would be the Constitution Party. Libertarians ignore a lot of the Constitution to push their agenda of anarchy. One cannot be for anarchy and for a government at the same time.
