I think you are referring to this idiot: Daniela Greene

An FBI translator who was assigned to investigate a bloodthirsty ISIS terrorist wound up falling head-over-heels in love with the man — and married him instead, a report says.

Daniela Greene, 38, was apparently so lovestruck by the German-born jihadist that she left her husband in the US to be with him in war-torn Syria, and then lied to the feds about her whereabouts. Roughly three years after joining the FBI as a linguist, Greene was assigned to the Detroit bureau in January 2014 and asked to probe Cuspert.

By June, she was already smitten with the tatted-up terrorist and making plans to be with him in the Middle East. They reportedly tied the knot in Syria sometime that month.

Greene eventually got cold feet, though, and decided to come back to the US in August 2014. She was immediately arrested upon her return.

According to CNN, Greene had been emailing an unidentified person back home about having second thoughts about her decision to pack up and leave soon after she got hitched.

“I was weak and didn’t know how to handle anything anymore,” she wrote in one message on July 8. “I really made a mess of things this time.” On Monday, Greene was revealed to have spent two years in the slammer for lying about a 2014 trip she took to Syria, where she hooked up with notorious German rapper-turned-ISIS recruiter Denis “Deso Dogg” Cuspert.

Greene had been assigned to investigate Cusbert while working for the FBI in Detroit and married him after sneaking into Syria from Turkey, according to court records.

At the time, she was already married to an American she met while he served as a US Army solider in Germany

There is more out there. My favorite was when she was in a bombed out building and the tingles went away and she now realized what a mess she made of her life. Feels are real. Emotions and vag tingles come first and they hamster for what they did come after.

Literacy was almost universal in classical Rome

And of course you know that the Germanic tribes that assimilated the western empire loved Roman culture, right? They wanted to keep literacy alive. There are plenty of stories about Charlemagne and his near-obsession with latin and accurate translation/diction, even though its widely accepted that he was himself illiterate.

Btw... we are talking Dark Ages... aka early middle ages. Thats about 400-900 CE. The shit you're talking about is 1400-ish CE. There very much was a cultural regression in Europe during the early middle ages, and yes, clergy were generally the only people during this time who were passing on literacy.

Seriously, read about the dark ages. The gothic wars ravaged the fuck out of Europe, resulting in the destruction of huge amounts of literature. It took literally hundreds of years for them to restore/recopy these texts. Hence, the enlightenment and renaissance. Furthermore, while the visigothic usurpers maintained Roman urban life for some centuries after the "fall" of Rome, europe was almost entirely without the infrastructure to provide organized education. This would also take years of effort to turn around, efforts largely spearheaded by Christian missionaries.

Everything that you've talked about in your comment happened in the high middle ages.

We are talking about literacy surviving through the dark ages, which you need to review.

The Persecution of paganism under Theodosius I began in 381, after the first couple of years of his reign as co-emperor in the eastern part of the Roman Empire. In the 380s, Theodosius I reiterated Constantine's ban on pagan sacrifice, prohibited haruspicy on pain of death, pioneered the criminalization of magistrates who did not enforce anti-pagan laws, broke up some pagan associations and destroyed pagan temples.

Between 389 and 391 he issued the "Theodosian decrees," which established a practical ban on paganism; visits to the temples were forbidden, remaining pagan holidays abolished, the sacred fire in the Temple of Vesta in the Roman Forum extinguished, the Vestal Virgins disbanded, auspices and witchcraft punished. Theodosius refused to restore the Altar of Victory in the Senate House, as requested by pagan Senators.

Also, most historians agree that Augustine didnt personally agree with torturing heretics (having been a converted heretic himself) and that he wrote about it mainly to avoid conflict with those in power who were already using torture.

You didn't even need to be a practicing pagan to be targeted. Just being a free thinker was enough. Christian monks brutal murder of Hypatia was notorious example of early Christians stomping out free thought as soon as they could.

You say Rome fell due to Theodosius I over-expansion. Have you read wikipedia sections on his Theodosian decrees and resulting zealous Christian persecution of paganism? That was driven by religious extremism not imperial ambition.

Also; once free thought was violently and effectively destroyed, the newly-established Catholic church turned it's baleful eye on non-Catholic churches. The book burnings and and butchery continued, but now targeted other Christian beliefs. And carried on this religious slaughter for over a thousand years, until 16th-17th century, by which time most kings were heartily sick of it all and effectively put a stop to the nonsense. Note it was political leaders, not religious leaders who ended it.

In ancient times, the middle east was the center of science, learning, and technology. E.g. sumaria,Babylon,Persia. Early islamic societies invented science and the Arabic number system used today; however, state and religion were separate. At some point, theology came to dominate the government. Now, Islam suppresses learning and is suffering from an inbreeding problem.

You can already see this occuring in the west, the next generation after generation z is going to be far more selfish barbaric and violent then us. Millennials and Generation Z are on the edge of the transition into the new age.
