Which values are those?

There's like, a couple ideas. Don't get married, don't cohabitate, don't waste your money or time chasing women as the juice isn't worth the squeeze. And even those ideas are up for debate.

So I am wondering what where the reasons behind your decision to choose this ‘lifestyle’ and what was the final straw so to speak.

Being falsely accused of domestic violence by my own mother and being made homeless all because I was sending money to my daughter. Having to go before a judge for four months straight and having him ignore the truth while him siding with my mother who was mentally ill. This was after I spent almost 20 years taking care of her.

Add in the parental alienation my ex-wife and her grandma did to my daughter while hiding her from me for 14 years.

Oh having to register for the selective service or having to be denied government services on top of the threat of imprisonment at the age of 18. Women are exempt from having to put their lives on the line.

Women want the rights, but none of the responsibility.

It’s a generalization, but no man comes to this while he’s thirsty for pussy. The cognitive dissonance is too great. That’s why so many recently divorced men identify with it. They’re just done. Permanent strike.

The last girl I dated broke up with me the day before my birthday. I’m pretty sure it was because she didn’t want to buy me a gift or didn’t want to drive me to the airport. Always some petty shit. I get off the plane and my parents ask, “Hey, how’s L doing?” I responded. “Oh, she broke up with me yesterday.” I was over it so quickly. They wanted to talk about it as they’re caring people. But I was actually happy she pulled the trigger. Didn’t even try to stop her.

That’s when I saw MGTOW shit in a new light. It’s a framework that adequately explains the “feminine mystique.” There really is no mystery to it. Perhaps you’ll have a similar realization someday.

What lifestyle do you mean? What do you think I joined? I chose not to join something myself, or rather I chose not to rejoin. I got bored with relationships with women, they were more hassle than it was worth. So here I am, not joining something and have a bloody good time of it. I happened across a group of people just like me, people hang with others whom they share a common interest with all the time, that’s pretty normal, you do it to. What I think isn’t so normal but more common than I would like is for people to confront others who they have nothing in common with about the choices they make. But people do, just like you’re doing now because you think you are morally superior or more virtuous in some way. But really you are just compensating for somthing and I don’t care what that is.

Good thing it's not a movement and rather a descriptor for who men who choose to walk away from societal expectations and do things for their own benefit and what makes them happy.

I also don't care what other particular political views other men who are going their own way hold. The men here hold many different beliefs, some are religious, some are not, there are Christians, Hindu, Buddhists, among the men who are going their own way... what does that matter?

There are people from the left here, there are people from the right, there are centrists, there are people who don't give a fuck about politics altogether and none of that matters either.

That being said, I believe it’s good to attempt to understand and challenge perspectives different from your own instead of simply alienating yourself from them. So I am wondering what where the reasons behind your decision to choose this ‘lifestyle’ and what was the final straw so to speak.

Indeed, I hold this belief too, which is why I constantly challenge my own beliefs and challenge the beliefs of others. The problem is that I find that others don't like to be challenged that way and retreat very quickly when they realise I'm not going to back down.

Without turning this into a huge essay, as I usually do. My reasons for going my own way is that I don't think having a romantic relationship with a woman is a safe thing to do and will offer me no benefits in my life. Basically, it's not going to make me happy and what it will do, based on observations I've had of people's relationships around me, all it will do is bring me misery in one form or another.

And yeah, I've had my fair share of relationships with women in my teens and early to mid-twenties. They were all pretty normal and we simply went our separate ways in the ends because we realised we weren't compatible. I've never personally been through a horror story like many of them men here, but that doesn't mean I'm blind to what goes on around me. I saw many men I worked with and called a friend who had their lives fucked over by a woman one way or the other. At the time, in my twenties, I felt, "well they're unlucky..." but when you see it so often, it becomes less about luck and you start to see a terrible pattern form.

But the funny thing is that all of that wasn't the reason I went my own way. The path that led me to this point is that in my mid-twenties I decided to quit my job, dump my girlfriend and go back to university to become a teacher. I hated my job, my girlfriend was meh and I didn't like the direction my life was going. I didn't want to be a drone in an office.

I come from a family of teachers, so I decided, maybe I should try teaching, see how that works out for me. So, using all the money I saved, I put myself through university, came out the other side and immediately got a job at a secondary school because I was exactly what they were looking for...

...now, I have a great, stable career at the school I've been working at for many years, I've got a newly built house, a nice car, all the things I've ever wanted... and best of all, I have all the time and money in the world to do what makes me happy.

Why would I reintroduce a woman into that equation when for all this time, I've been doing so well without one? All a woman can add is complication and I risk running into many different issues adding a woman to my life.

So while this has ended up turning into a short essay, the thing to take away from it all is that, for me, a woman is simply not worth the effort and they don't bring anything valuable to the table to begin with in the first place, so why bother messing with such a dangerous creature?

If you have any specific questions for me, ask away. But know that I'm an individual who doesn't speak for anyone else, as are the rest of us here. We're not collectivists, this is not a group collective, the term "MGTOW" is just a descriptor of men who are individually going their own paths away from societal expectations that say they need to be anchored to a woman.

If you're a progressive, you might understand the MGTOW movement/philosophy as an expression of countercultural pushback.

Feminism (despite its perpetual claim of minority, persecuted status) has been overwhelmingly successful at injecting its premises into the working formula of modern society.

And whether it is right or wrong, once a dominant ideology takes hold of society, you will inevitably find a strengthened minority resistance to those ideas. Furthermore, this minority will often exploit its position as the minority to proclaim itself "The Resistance". This carries a powerful moral weight.

Look at how feminism first rose to prominence in the 1960s: as a consequence of the hegemony of male dominance and the Nuclear Family in the 1950s. This is how history works: the dialectical pushback between ideologies. Truth, sadly, has very little to do with it.

I am not mgtow as I have been married for over 15 years to my wife and have 3 kids with her. But I agree with the mgtow philosophy. I don’t think that women are any worse than men are and if laws and society favored men, I am sure my gender would being doing the same things.

That being said, the risks of marriage have gone up over the past two generations. Meanwhile, the rewards of marriage have gone down. There is a certain point where any reasonable person would say it isn’t worth it anymore to get committed with a woman. A mgtow would say we have already reached that point.
