When I was younger I enjoyed staying in on Saturday nights. I would eat dinner, watch sports, read a little, and catch up on sleep. It was relaxing.
Then I got older and things got complicated. I wanted to go out. Why? Because that's where the women were - at bars, clubs, house parties, etc. Of course, you can't go out sober. That defeats the whole purpose. Nor can you go out alone. So Saturday nights started to involve lots of drinking and socializing and spending money and staying up late.
I still wasn't getting laid very much, though. So now I had to up my game. Should I improve my social circle? Should I invest more in my wardrobe? Or was it money that was holding me back?
These types of questions swirled through my head, especially on the weekends. I sized up every opportunity I could to advance myself. I took in all the self improvement and red pill literature.
And I ended up an anxious mess.
At the end of all this, I had to ask myself: is this even worth it? Instead of simply eating dinner and relaxing, here I am four beers deep scheming about how to live an Instagram-worthy lifestyle.
Over time, I've begun to realize that many of our problems as men come from how we relate to women. When we're young, we're fed a very hyped-up view of what interactions with the opposite sex entail. We want to lose our virginity with one of the cheerleaders in high school, and get the respect of all the guys. Then we want to go to college and be Big Man on Campus, who slays all the sorority girls. In our later years, we take on an equally delusional belief that we're now more mature and ready to spend the rest of our lives with The One.
ALL of these beliefs are idealized and overhyped. They simply aren't in touch with how the real world operates. Losing your virginity as part of some magical prom night, College Chad, finding the One - this is shit from the movies! It's just a distraction.
The truth is, we were never really meant to live like that. Women - at most - are a compliment to an already full life. They are not supposed to be the end-all, be-all.
