Literally had this conversation with someone today. She said that rape is defined as "any unwanted penetration"...even if that unwantedness happens mid-sex, after sex, in her head, or in a completely fabricated story. They don't see anything wrong with regret rape or false rape allegations.

I can't disagree with that!
I mean, within reason. If you hire someone to demolish your building, then yell 'Stop!' while the wrecking ball is swinging through the air, it would be insane to charge them with destruction of property for any damage done. The best form, by far, would just be to not consent in the first place. If I were a judge I don't think I would call mid-sex withdrawal of consent rape unless there was significant force involved and no stoppage after a significant time after consent was withdrawn. Anything else is pretty much just entrapment or abuse of the law.

There was the case of Kevin Ibbs that took place in Australia as early as 1986, later known as the case of the 30 seconds rapist.
In short, that man had consentual sex with a woman and (allegedly) failed to pull out after she withdrew consent in the middle of the act for whole 30 seconds. He was convicted and served the full sentence of 4 years.
Years later, the woman who accused him confessed that she conspired with his ex-wife, because they wanted his house; which they subsequently got.
Both women later got convicted, but not for wronging him, but for "conspiring to pervert the course of justice". The people running the justice system did not give a fuck about that man, but they were pissed that someone was messing with them.
Also, both women only had to spend a couple of month in jail and to top even that, that man never received any form of compensation.
Kevin Ibbs never found any kind of solace or peace, he never re-united with his estranged daughter and he committed suicide in 2008. While his ex probably celebrated his death in his house.
And here in Germany, there was the case of Horst Arnold, (there is only a german article, sorry) a teacher who spend 5 years in jail after a female co-worker accused him of raping her anally in school.
The whole case was more than fishy right from the start. Not only had his accuser a reputation for being a pathological liar (in fact she already was transfered to the school were the rape allegedly happened; because she falsely accused the principal of her former workplace of trying to poison her), but in less than 15 minutes the whole rape supposedly happened and she allegedly had the time to put her clothes on, make a walk and then go back to their lesson with no sign of psychological trauma whatsoever.
The only reason the truth came out was because an "equal opportunities officer" *(which are, by law, only women; can only be voted for by women and only deal with the problems of women) was assigned to her, who later boasted in front of her brother with details of the case.
That brother was a lawyer and felt so disturbed by the descriptions of his sister that he started digging and eventually managed to achieve a retrial, even after the bloody Federal Court of Justice of Germany denied a retrial earlier.
The teacher, who had to serve the full sentence, not at least because he insisted that he was innocent and refused to take part in a therapy group for sex offenders, was acquitted in a retrial. Soon after the retrial, he died from a heart attack.
Horst Arnold never received any recompensation and when he tried to get his job as a teacher back, the Ministry of Education told him they would not employ former convicts.
His accuser later got a 5 year sentence (which was the only good thing about this), but the trial revealed the screaming injustice and the blatant procedural errors that happened during the trial. The police officer in charge admitted for instance, that he had no doubt that woman was lying, but ignored his doubts about the case anyway, because the investigative authorities feared "a public outcry".
And this is only one of those cases in Germany alone, there are many, many more and pretty much all of those cases have one thing in common - if the accusing woman is found guilty of making false accusations, she usually gets away with a slap on the wrist, while the falsely accused and jailed man has to fight for compensation.
Not that it would matter - the compensation for wrongful conviction here in Germany is ridiculous. The state pays 20 Euro per day, which in the case of Horst Arnold would have been whopping 36.500 Euro - well, not even that, because the state has the chutzpah to withhold a certain amount of that money for room and board. No, that is no joke. Also, there is almost no way of getting a compensation for costs of the proceedings.

These stories are for real. As far as the Joshua Strange story goes, he screwed up by continuing the relationship after the first accusation. That was a clear red flag and he should've ended it then.
